Dear friends,
hello again. The date is fast approaching so it's time to finalise our format. Barry's suggestions have been enough to give me an idea of how to proceed. First, the considerations which drove my thinking:
1. I like Barry's idea of 6 selected scenarios, which enables us to have 6 games set up and ready. This ought to give us time to play more games, which is the essential point of the exercise after all.
2. We have very tight space contraints the full impact of which we won't know until we get there. My solution to this is to pick 3 scenarios with wide maps and 3 with narrow maps, which will give us the minimum footprint on our tables without overly restricting our choice of scenarios.
3. I'd like to see games from CC:E, CC:M and CC:P with each nationality/faction appearing in at least one scenario; that's 9 factions out of 12 available across the 6 games.

With all that in mind, here is my suggested list of 6 scenarios for CC@UK Expo'10:
1, #8: Breakout Dance. Russian v German. Narrow.
2. #13. Tussle at Maleme. German v British. Wide.
3. #19. Metaxas Season. German v Greek (Axis minor). Narrow.
4. #21. Saint Agatha. Italian v American. Wide.
5. #A. Mindanao Island. Japanese v American. Narrow.
6. #K. Burning Buna. Japanese v Commonwealth. Wide.

Some of these are not the smallest of scenarios but I put them in the list because they fit the wider criteria. I can lay on 2 of these with my CC collection. We'd only need 2 more full CC collections to lay on the full selection of scenarios, which would be the case with any selection following the above criteria.

Please note that these are all suggestions and I invite comment on both the format and on the matter of scenario selection. Please do note too that we have to get this finalised promptly so that I can get the final tournament details sent off to Richard Denning at UK Expo for next week.

Two final points: I appeal for a volunteer or two to arrive early- 5pm say, on both the Friday and the Saturday evenings so that we can get everything set up. That way we'll be ready to roll at our appointed 6pm start time. Also: there is an unavoidable family issue which just might prevent my attendance at Expo'10 in whole or in part. So I must also raise a call for volunteers who could step in and run the event- in whole or in part, should I be unable to attend. I will keep you up to date on this matter.

And that's it. My best wishes to you all. And don't forget: Steve Bishop is our target for this year!
cheers,
John

Since no one has commented on my previous post I'm assuming that there
are no complaints about my proposed format. Thank you all for your
implied confidence in my arrangements. Now I've just got to get all
the fiddly little details done.

Also I'll probably be able to organise seeding of subsequent rounds
although this is dependent on 2 things:
1. That I understand how this works (easy enough AFAIK: just match up
the top 2, the next 2, etc).
2. That each game is played in a timeframe which permits this; if
we're aiming for 2 games each session then I don't forsee any
difficulties here.

Uh, yeah, I think you are doing it right ... (which game are we playing here...I can't even remember who is running what. Anyway it will be nice to come to the tournaments and meet people. I booked all the board wargame tournaments last year and never turned up due to a sudden cash heamoragghe.  I am really looking forward to it.)
