Subject: This Saturday: Join tens of thousands to move beyond fossil fuels

Dear Erica,

We want to make sure that you've heard about Moving Planet. It's a global day of action to move beyond fossil fuels - and it is taking place tomorrow, Saturday September 24th.

Canadians are taking part in over 100 events that are spread across the country. After years of setbacks, the global climate movement is re-awakening, and we're partnering on this event to show solidarity on one of the great global challenges we have ever faced.

Below is the info from our friends at 350.org. I hope you can join us!

Matthew, Jamie, Tria, Ryan, Adam and the Leadnow.ca team

Hey Canada!

We can hardly wait—Moving Planet is tomorrow, Saturday, September 24th, and in fact, we’re already hearing reports about some of the first early actions. We’ve seen photos from a march in Nigeria, a long distance bicycle ride in Indonesia, and at 1pm EDT today, organizers in Tonga, just West of the International Date Line, will officially kick off the big day with a sunrise ceremony.

The message of Moving Planet is about moving beyond fossil fuels—especially the dirtiest ones known on earth, the Alberta Tar Sands. In the past month, the movement to stop the tar sands—and the Keystone XL pipeline running across the US-Canada border—has taken an incredible turn. People all over the world have been inspired to take action, and on Saturday, we’ll show this commitment to moving our communities beyond fossil fuels.

In Canada, there’s a lot to get excited about for Moving Planet—there are over 100 events planned in nearly every province across the country—from a Dene drum circle in Yellowknife to a bike ride around Prince Edward Island to a massive bicycle march through downtown Vancouver in support of sustainable transportation in the city.

Please find an event near you to participate in this Saturday, here:

Or, if you’re near any of the major Moving Planet events happening in some of Canada’s largest cities, you can get involved by clicking on the following links:

In Vancouver, friends from Youth for Climate Justice Now and the Wilderness Committee are leading a massive bike ride through the city to get more people out of their cars, and call for better transportation policy in the city.

In Toronto, and in events all across Ontario, communities are coming together to celebrate the Green Energy Field Day, a day to move beyond fossil fuels and celebrate the province’s steps forward in supporting clean energy. The rally will be held in Queen’s Park and will be solar powered and fun for the whole family.

In Montreal, community members, families, and many local and national partner organizations will host a sustainable picnic and “kilometre drive” in Jeanne-Mance Park, where participants will “contribute a kilometre” of sustainable transportation around the park.

In Winnipeg, First Nations leaders are guiding a sustainable parade through town, followed by speeches and a rally at the legislature.

Then, on Monday, Ottawa will host a massive demonstration against the tar sands and the Keystone XL pipeline specifically. It’s an action-packed weekend, and we hope you’ll take part in all that you can. Here’s more about what’s taking place at 10 AM on Parliament Hill: http://ottawaaction.ca/join-us

Let’s get moving to stop fossil fuels, and show what a sustainable future can look like. See you in the streets this weekend,

Kelly Blynn for the whole Moving Planet team

p.s. We know that to solve the climate crisis we need to move away from fossil fuels fast. Monday will see peaceful civil disobedience in Ottawa to stop the Keystone XL pipeline. The Leadnow.ca team would love to hear what you think about this tactic: http://www.tfaforms.com/218519

future of our clean energy economy is under threat. Some candidates want to rip-up our world-class Green Energy Act, killing thousands of new clean energy jobs and billions of investments.  Power your Vote by telling your candidates that together we will vote for clean energy, new jobs, and healthy communities.
