I had a phone message this A.M. from a woman who had the winning bid
on the walking poles. One is broken and she couldn't find the New
Outdoor Store in the phone book. I called her back and she had figured
out it was The Outdoor Store with no "New" in the name. She called
them and found it was the store owner bidding against her and that she
is getting an exchange.

But she went on to say what a great event it was. Everything
absolutely perfect and fun. She is becoming a member.

The store owner was bidding against her? I guess he figured he'd try and get her to pay more, and if not he'd be better off taking them back and re-selling them. Very sorry they were broken... not sure how that happened. Glad for the happy ending.
And it is a happy ending. I thoroughly enjoyed "working" with all of you.  What a great party! We were competing with a lot of activity this weekend, but the folks who came really appreciated what we did, and feel closer to what our group is trying to do. We accomplished quite a bit for trail awareness.

Looking forward to our after-event party, too! We have a lot of wine leftover-- a lot of it is Brian's to return. You all were so generous and supportive.
(I like your subject line, Mike. We're far from done with these emails, Rick-- get used to it!)

I just talked to the woman who had the broken pole from the Outdoor
Store, because she won a raffle set as well. The guy who was bidding
against her for the poles was named John, and he kindly said that if
she wanted them bad enough she could have them.

When she talked to the Outdoor store on the phone she learned that the
store manager's name (not owner) was John (there are actually 2 'John'
managers there). She assumed it was the same John that was bidding
against her for some unreasonable reason! I talked to the Outdoor
store and it was NOT either of those Johns. Safe to say there are lots
of Johns in town, and well, on a positive note, there are at least two
that are TTHB supporters. :-) Please take The Outdoor Store off your
"shilling-shit-list".
Thanks,
Nancy

It was my friend Johnny Calkins, NOT the manager of the Outdoor Store.  He really wanted the poles, but then discovered they were women's, so let her outbid him.  We were keeping an eye on it all night, then he told me that he let her have them.  Much ado about nothing, and a case of mistaken identity.

Does anyone know what happen to the Mad River kegs?  they haven't been returned yet?

I would guess either at the Grange or the Northcoast Regional Land Trust on Samoa Blvd. in Arcata. Want me to check?

Sorry- that task was removed from my list of things to worry about on Saturday night. I heard the NRLT appreciated the leftover beer immensely.

Turns out the poles aren't even broken. She's now making other
accusations that we are redistributing raffle winnings to make more
people happy. I've assured her that's not the case. It's time to step
away from her conspiracy theories and cash her check quick-- she's
threatening to stop payment even though she will keep the poles. Like
M Welch says, there may be no way to make her happy. I just hope she
stops calling us before 7am about this. :-(

I deposited the check with the rest of the cash/checks on Monday, so she won't be able to make that happen, I'm sure.

She still needs to come pick up her chocolate and coffee.  She is thinking there was something else in her basket, like a gift certificate or something. Michael suggested she may have been confused by a neighboring basket that also had coffee in it, along with a Los Bagels certificate. She said she would not have gotten excited about a LB certificate, but she can't remember what she was excited about. If you really want to try and settle with her I can offer to buy her a certificate of her choosing from our sponsors that donated certificates. What do you think? It's a shame...

PERFECT! - Unless, of course, you have a certificate with a local psychologist.

I remember Ingrid washing them out and thought she put them in your truck, but perhaps they went with her... pretty sure sinks were empty. Can ask the NRLT folks or Jack, if not. Probably not far if they got left.

Thanks to you and Mike for going out to the trail tomorrow!!

Hi gang. This reminds me.

There was a note in with the NEC wine stemware that we should give them $x for each broken wine glass.

We found two cracked glasses from the North bar, and threw them away. There may have been others, I have no idea.

Also, it was interesting, and understandable, that the CCC crew was NOT allowed to wash anything that had held alcohol.

them off. Thanks for remembering that.
Will you be joining us on Monday eve, at the Marina? You are welcome

I suspect the CCC rule is for a reason. I think a couple of students
at NPA were finishing off wine glasses at our event before they washed
them!
