Anyone interested bicycling and pedestrian advocacy to attend open-to-public Tennessee Rural Planning Organization meetings per the attached schedule. Bicyclist and pedestrian concerns are better served when citizens actually show up to public meetings.
There is a time in each agenda for public comment. Do you think rumble strips should be installed per AASHTO guidelines? Do you hope for wider shoulders on planned road projects? Do you want to meet some of the public officials and cultivate a working relationship? This is high-quality time to spend. Be professional and courteous - your public officials will be as well. Skip it if you're angry or feel like giving them a piece of your mind!
Let us know if you plan to attend any of these sessions in your region. Spread the word to other advocates if you can't.

From TDOT's website:
"The Rural Planning Organization Section is responsible for the coordination of the long range transportation planning process in the state’s 12 RPOs as set forth in TDOT’s Long Range Transportation Plan.
The purpose of the RPOs is to involve local officials in multi-modal transportation planning through a structured process. Our goal is to ensure quality, competence, and fairness in the transportation decision making process.
The state's 12 RPO's are Center Hill, Dale Hollow, East Tennessee North, East Tennessee South, First Tennessee, Greater Nashville Regional, Memphis Area, Northwest Tennessee, South Central Tennessee East, South Central Tennessee West, Southeast Tennessee, and Southwest Tennessee.
The RPO will consider multi modal transportation needs on a
local and regional basis; review long-term needs as well as short-term funding priorities; and make recommendations to TDOT. "
