Happy New Year Trailers!
Welcome to our first official run of 2020!
We will be doing a new route for us – up to Chapman’s Nek, carrying on up to reach Silvermine, then along to Blackburn Ravine and down. There are variations for different distances.
We meet at Hout Bay Beach parking to sign in. Then we’ll pile into a few cars and drive up to park at the turnaround point on Chappies.
We go up the single track to Chapman’s Nek and at the junction continue up the single track to eventually reach Silvermine between Noordhoek Peak and Noordhoek Lookout. A fairly big climb but not exposed.
Once in Silvermine, there are a variety of options to get to the top of BlackBurn: jeep track, panorama path or Amphitheatre path (similar distances just timing will differ). We come down Blackburn via the top path or the normal path. Once at East Fort, we run back down to the beach parking (10km). (ferrying drivers back to the start to pick up cars)
For those that want extra distance, they can take the contour path back to the Nek and run back down to the cars at the start.(13km)
For a shorter run, at Chapman’s Nek junction, go up Chapmans Peak and back down to start.
Rendezvous and start time
Meet at 6:25am at the beach parking at Hout Bay to sign in. Then pile into a few cars and drive up to park at the turnaround point on Chappies (asking for a free Day Pass at the tollgate).
We’ll start running around 6:45am.
There is not a lot of parking up there so we need as few cars as possible
Terrain and distance
Single track and jeep tracks. Uphill start and then jeep track or single track running in Silvermine and single track and jeep track down Blackburn
Around 10 – 13km depending on the route chosen
This is a pack run with regular regroups, we will split into speed groups with leaders and sweeps on the morning.
The relaxed group will be confirmed on Friday
Please note that K-Way VOB club rules do not permit dogs on our runs.
What to bring
Water, whistle, warm/windproof top depending on weather, space blanket, ICE ID - either on your phone, bracelet/tag, card in your backpack.
Important: Please remember to look behind you at every turn in the route to make sure the people behind you see which way you are going.
Leaders of each group will ensure that no-one is left behind. Please keep the groups together and ensure that no-one is left on their own.
See you there!

1] you understand the associated risks involved and accept full responsibility for your own safety.
2] you are medically and physically fit to participate and
3] are carrying the necessary water, clothing and safety equipment required for the particular run.
