Hi Trailers

This week we loop from the Rhodes memorial entrance around to the blockhouses and then along the contour path towards Newlands ravine (or further) before returning to the start.

Route

The start is a good warm up on the single track shortcut across to the road to Rhodes memorial, then onto the jeep track that runs above the memorial. Continue around the side of Plumpudding hill and keep right where the jeep track splits (do not turn up to the top of Plumpudding hill)  Just after this there is an out and back to the right for those who want to see the Prince of Wales blockhouse. Returning to the jeep track, climb the zig zag road, but continue straight at the end of the second zig where you will find a single track on the left leading up to the Queens blockhouse which you should be able to see above. After visiting the Queens blockhouse, the single track continues climbing up and along towards the Kings blockhouse and joins the contour path below the Kings Blockhouse. There is a steep climb up to the Kings blockhouse and then back to the turnstile and along the contour path towards Newlands ravine. Depending on the distance you want to cover – continue along the contour path and choose one of the many routes back down to the start.

Rendezvous and start time
RV in the Old Zoo Parking below Rhodes Memorial (the one nearest to the Rhodes mem gate) ready to start at 07:30.

Terrain and distance
Jeep track and single track. Very runnable with some short climbs.
Distance about 11-14 kms (depending on the distance along the contour path before turning back down) taking more or less about 2hrs to 2hrs 30m.

Groups
This is a pack run with regular regroups, we will split into speed groups with leaders and sweeps on the morning.

There will be a relaxed group.

Dogs
Please note that  K-Way VOB club rules do not permit dogs on our runs.

What to bring
Water, whistle, warm/windproof top depending on weather, space blanket, ICE ID - either on your phone, bracelet/tag, card in your backpack.

Important: Please remember to look behind you at every turn in the route to make sure the people behind you see which way you are going.
Leaders of each group will ensure that no-one is left behind. Please keep the groups together and ensure that no-one is left on their own.

See you all there!

Hi Trailers,

This week's run is a favourite of mine for its runability and beautiful muted landscape colours: a flat out and back from Noordhoek Beach to Slangkop Lighthouse, or wherever you decide to turn around.

Rendezvous and start time
RV in the main Noordhoek Beach parking lot at the end of Beach Road. Ready to start at 07:30. This is the Winter Solstice and sunrise will only be at 7:51am. We'll watch the sun rise as we run along the hard sand at low tide.

Terrain and distance: Hard sand. Distance up to 14 kms depending on the distance before turning down, taking more or less 1 and a half to 2 hours.

Groups: This is a pack run with regular regroups. We will split into speed groups with leaders and sweeps on the morning.

What to bring: Water, whistle, warm/windproof top depending on weather, space blanket, ICE ID - either on your phone, bracelet/tag, card in your backpack.

ImportantPlease remember to make sure the people ahead of and behind you are not too far away. There have been reports of incidences on the beach that we wish to avoid but following the 'safety in numbers' theory. Leaders of each group will ensure that no-one is left too far behind. Please keep the groups together and ensure that no-one is left on their own.

Relaxed group to be confirmed.

See you all there!

Hi Trailers

Weather permitting, this week we will be heading up Table Mountain via the India Venster Route (with alternatives)

Please note that this route has some rock scrambling and some scary bits, so if unsure, don’t worry - we’ve got you with an alternative route (maybe a run in Deer Park)

Route

The start is more of a hike, going up the steps to the contour and then going left to join the India Venster trail under the cableway. The route will then go up India Venster, followed by a run at the top and down Diagonal and back to the cars via the Pipe track.

Alternate route

This will probably be a run in deer park – aiming at 12 km and about 2h30

Rendezvous and start time

RV in the Kloofnek/Sanparks parking area at the start of Tafelberg Rd ready to start running  at 07:30

Directions to start:          https://maps.app.goo.gl/YutgXg9r8eRXrHkg7

Terrain and distance

Some steep climbs, rock scrambling and some runnable parts
The India Venster route is likely to be a longer time out – so please be prepared for this

Groups
This is a pack run with regular regroups, we may split into speed groups

Dogs
Please note that  Totalsports VOB club rules do not permit dogs on our runs.
