Hi Trailers
It’s the theoretical start of spring next month so we’re starting with a bang!
We are going to climb Blackburn Ravine and then up to the Constantiaberg Mast, down to Elephant’s Eye Lookout and back down Blackburn.
A shorter flatter option for those who don’t want to climb will go on the Manganese Mine/hoerikwagga trail to picnic rock and back
Route
We park at The Hout Bay beach parking near the Beach Café, run up the tar to East Fort and up the lower track to Blackburn. We ascend Blackburn to the lookout and take the path to the left which takes us to the Constantiaberg Mast. After tagging the peak, we run down the path going to Elephant’s eye. We then turn down and run along the track taking us back to the Hout Bay lookout and down Blackburn via the upper or lower path depending on preference and back to the cars.
For those that don’t want to climb, the shorter flatter option will take you along the Manganese Mine/ hoerikwagga trail on the other side of Constantiaberg towards picnic rock and the tar road coming down from the mast. Pose for pictures on Picnic rock and retrace your steps back to the cars
Rendezvous and start time
Meet at the Hout Bay parking lot at 6h55am ready to run at 7am . Note: earlier time
Terrain & Distance
The longer route is mostly single track with some degraded jeep track and tar to start and end.
We are climbing to the second tallest peak on the mountain so be prepared for the climb to the peak and then it is a wonderful descent all the way back down
The shorter route is mostly single track
The planned route is around 12km and the shorter route around 10km . Distances estimated!
What to bring
Water, whistle, a space blanket and your ICE information. The weather can be different as we go up the mountain. Please come prepared for wind, mist, sun or rain!
Please check the weather before you set off from home and pack the appropriate waterproof/warm gear.
Please note that TMT unfortunately does not allow dogs on its runs.

Hi Trailers
Our run tomorrow is ON!
It will be overcast and cool but cold up on the mountain. Although no rain is predicted, the mountain is unpredictable so please come prepared!
There are lots of options for turning back if required.
The relaxed group will go through to Picnic rock with Lorraine

Hi Trailers
We’ve had some wonderful runnable routes lately. This Saturday we have a bit more climbing in between the running 😊
This does involve some mild exposure and one small scramble
The regular leaders of the relaxed group will all be away, but I will lead a slower group doing the same route as the main group
We are going to go up Mowbray ridge from the blockhouse and run the beautiful upper contour popping out at the base of Devil’s Peak, then down to the saddle and down Newlands ravine and back to Newlands parking.
A walking group doing a Newlands Forest loop will be confirmed on Friday
Route
We park at Newlands Fire Base parking and run up the jeep tracks and single tracks to the King’s Blockhouse. From there we climb up Mowbray Ridge and take the upper contour. We pop out at the path to Devil’s Peak where we can decide whether it is worth a visit (it may be in cloud). Either way, we descend to the saddle and along to Newlands Ravine where we go down the ravine and take the single tracks and jeep tracks back to the parking
Rendezvous and start time
Meet at the Newlands Fire Base parking lot at 6h25am ready to run at 6h30am .
Terrain & Distance
The route is mostly single track with some jeep track at the start and end.
The first uphill starts at the car park and ends at the upper contour – but the route to the blockhouse is runnable as is the upper contour. Next uphill is the climb up to Devil’s Peak
The descent to the saddle and down Newlands Ravine to the cars is a wonderful downhill run
The route is around 12km but will take time due to the climb . Distance estimated!
What to bring
Water, whistle, a space blanket and your ICE information. The weather can be different as we go up the mountain. Please come prepared for wind, mist, sun or rain!

Hi Trailers
Next Saturday the UTCT 160km run takes over every mountain in Cape Town, except Cape Point and the North. As some of the trailers will be helping with marshalling, I decided that the far North and South options wouldn’t work. I’ve crafted a route in Silvermine West that allows us to run and also to see and support some of the 160km runners.
A walking group will be confirmed on Friday
Route
We enter at Gate 1 (dam side) and park immediately to the left of the entry hut. From there we take the jeep track to the left (aware of the race runners going across to Silvermine East crossing), passing the entrance to the river walk until we come to the cairn marking the single track to the right. We follow this single track, keeping right and then left at the cairn till we hit the jeep track coming down from Noordhoek peak. We turn left and run until the single track marking the entrance to Crassula/Amphitheatre path on the right. We run the Crassula path until we get to the jeep track. Again we need to be careful of the race runners. We turn right and run down the jeep track turning off to the dam (optional deviation down the jeep track to Elephant’s Eye and Steenberg Ridge) and take the river walk back to the cars. (I can’t tell from the map if UTCT runners take the River Walk – if they do, we’ll take an alternative option back)
Rendezvous and start time
Officially the gate opens at 7am. Please come early so we can start running at 7h20. There is no mobile reception so we won’t know if you’re late.
Terrain & Distance
The route a combination of jeep track and single track.
The route is around 11km with added kilometres to Elephant’s Eye and possibly Steenberg ridge – 14km
What to bring
Water, whistle, a space blanket and your ICE information. Please remember your entry fee of R38 cash plus your ID /MyGreenCard/Wildcard!
Please check the weather before you set off from home and pack the appropriate waterproof/warm gear.
Please note that TMT unfortunately does not allow dogs on its runs.

Hi Trailers
Next Saturday Bay to Bay takes over Camps Bay and Hout Bay so we will stay on the East side of the mountain. We start at Kalk Bay station and work our way up to Silvermine.
Route
We start at the parking at Kalk Bay station and clamber up the stairs to Boyes Drive. There we turn left and run along the road for a while until we get to the Trappieskop path. We follow this path up and over (detour to Trappieskop if you want to) all the way down to Clovelly where we run along the single track just above the houses coming down just before the Golf Club. Time to stretch our legs as we take the jeep track through the Golf Course to Sunbird Centre. From here we slog up the hill to Dead Man’s path.
At this point there are various options:
Rendezvous and start time
Park in the Kalk Bay station parking (near Cape to Cuba). Arrive early for check in, ready to run at 6am
Terrain & Distance
The route is a combination of jeep track and single track with bits of tar at the start and past the golf course.
Depending on the route chosen, the distances are approximately 11-12km or 15 – 16km. Very runnable.
What to bring
Sufficient water for hot weather, whistle, a space blanket and your ICE information
Please check the weather before you set off from home and pack the appropriate waterproof/warm gear and enough water.
Please note that TMT unfortunately does not allow dogs on its runs.

Hi all, TMTT2T is ON tomorrow
Weather – a breeze from the south to cool us down, some drizzle around 8am to cool us down some more, we will start at about 18 degrees and finish at about 21 degrees, full on 100% cloud so all of that means PERFECT running weather.
Car admin – suggestion is to meet at 6am at Noordhoek and jump in as few cars as possible and drive to Lakeside. After the run we can make a plan to get those drivers back to their cars at Lakeside.
There will be a walking group starting at Silvermine (the non-gate side) which will be 10km.
The walkers will be doing similar car admin, some going to Noordhoek and catching a lift to Lakeside, and from Lakeside Toad at about 6:30am, they will drive up to the Silvermine gate 2 (I think it is gate 2) – the non-dam side, and they will join us at the end at the Noordhoek Toad for a beer or two.
Any questions phone or whatsapp me 082 570 4405

Next Saturday we tackle hills again! We’ll summit Constantiaberg via Blackburn Ravine, a long up, and then enjoy the flowing downhill home.
Route
We start at the parking at Hout Bay beach and run up the tar road till East Fort where we turn on to the mountain. Ascending Blackburn Ravine brings us to Hout Bay lookout. From there we go left up to Constantiaberg to bag a peak. We can detour to Elephant’s Bum cave on the way if desired. Instead of returning the same way, we’ll enjoy the downhill to Elephant’s Eye lookout, then take the jeep track to the main path, back to Hout Bay lookout and down Blackburn Ravine home.
For those that don’t enjoy climbing up and down Blackburn, they will turn off Blackburn halfway up and take the path towards Chapman’s Peak. At the junction, they can tag Chapman’s Peak or just continue down to the road and enjoy a flowing run down the road back home.
Rendezvous and start time
Park in the Hout Bay beach parking opposite Chapman’s Peak hotel before 6h55am ready to start running at 7am
Terrain & Distance
The route is a combination of jeep track and single track with tar at the start and end.
The long route is around 14km and the alternative route is around 10km
What to bring
Water, appropriate clothes for cold or wet weather, whistle, a space blanket and your ICE information
Please check the weather before you set off from home and pack the appropriate waterproof/warm gear.
Please note that TMT unfortunately does not allow dogs on its runs.

Hi trailers!

Hi Trailers
Next Saturday we’ll explore Silvermine East starting from Kalk Bay station parking. The solstice will have happened so we can look forward to longer ( but not warmer) days. 😊
Route
We meet at the parking at Kalk Bay station opposite the Norman Road steps. We follow the various steps up to Boyes Drive and wind our way up to Weary Willy’s. Here we go straight up Echo Valley, turning left and then right at the top to do some flowing downhill running down Dead Man’s path. We follow the jeep track to visit the waterfall, which should still be spectacular, and run toward Gate 2 turning right before the gate to climb up to Fat Lady cave. From there we descend to the jeep track turning right to Junction Pool. There are many routes back.
We can detour to Muizenberg cave on the way or turn left at junction Pool towards Nellie’s Pool; pass Nellie’s Pool and then left down the single track through Mimetes Valley (or keep straight on the jeep track). We don’t go down to Bailey’s Kloof but keep an eye out for the turning to the right turning to get back to the jeep track. Follow the jeep track back to Weary Willy’s and back down to Kalk Bay
Rendezvous and start time
Park in the Kalk Bay station parking next to Cape to Cuba opposite Wetsuit Warehouse before 7h25am ready to start running at 7h30am
Terrain & Distance
The route is a combination of jeep track and single track starting with a climb up to the top of Echo Valley.
The long route is around 14km and the alternative route documented is around 12km. There are many shorter options.
What to bring
Water, appropriate clothes for cold, windy, or wet weather, whistle, a space blanket and your ICE information
Please check the weather before you set off from home and pack the appropriate waterproof/warm gear.

Hi Trailers
Next Saturday we’ll take a trip down to Cape Point and do the Shipwreck and Sirkelsvlei routes starting at Olifantsbos.
Route
We meet at the parking at Olifantsbos and take the shipwreck route along the beach to view the remains of the wrecks. We then turn off the beach to climb up the hill to the interior. At the junction we turn right and make our way to sirkelsvlei which should be full at this time of year. At the vlei we turn left and make our way along Mimetes Ridge back to the cars.
For those that want a slightly longer run, carry on straight at Sirkelsvlei and do an out and back run to the jeep track crossing (an extra 4kms) before rejoining the route back home.
Rendezvous and start time
The gate opens at 7am. We would like to start running at 7:45am.
The turn off to Olifantsbos is the first right turn after the pay gate (after around 2km) and it is about 10km to the parking.
At the T junction (after 6.4km) turn left and follow the road to the parking area. Look out for animals.
There is limited reception in the park so please make sure you know where you are going and don’t be late.
Terrain & Distance
The route is a combination of beach and single track.
The route is around 10km with an option to do the out and back to add 4km. There is a shorter option.
What to bring
Water, appropriate clothes for cold, windy, or wet weather, whistle, a space blanket and your ICE information
Please check the weather before you set off from home and pack the appropriate waterproof/warm gear.

Hi Trailers
Next Saturday we are going to explore Silvermine East starting from Kalk Bay going up via Trappieskop and Cave Peak
Route
We meet at the parking at Kalk Bay station and go up the stairs to Boyes Drive. We turn left on Boyes Drive and run to the Trappieskop trail. Just after the saddle at the top there is a single-track path to the right which takes us through to the Cave Peak trail. We turn left along here and go right up a small easy scrambly bit to get to the top. We turn left at the top. At the 3 way junction we turn left and run along Dead Man’s path and then the jeep track through to the waterfall. We turn right along the fisherman’s trail and run to a jeep track.
From the jeep track there are various options and distances:
A shorter option is to skip Dead Man’s path, run towards the amphitheatre and turn right down Echo Valley to Weary Willy’s – 7km

Hi Trailers
Next Saturday we go back on to table mountain via Kasteelspoort and run the twelve apostles’ route to Grootkop for the gorgeous view (holding thumbs for better weather), exploring tranquility cracks on the way back before descending via Woody Ravine
Route
Option 1: We meet at the parking in Theresa Avenue and trudge up to the pipe track crossing it to scamper up Kasteelspoort. At the top we turn right and run along the twelve apostles’ route till we get to Grootkop. After enjoying the view (weather dependent!), we return on the same path taking a quick detour to explore tranquility cracks before descending via Woody Ravine and making our way along the pipe track back to the cars.
Option 2: For those that don’t enjoy climbing and descending, Gaeleen will be leading a route along the missing link starting further down Theresa Avenue. This has very little elevation and is more runnable.
Rendezvous and start time
For Grootkop route, meet at the entrance to the hiking trail on Theresa Avenue at 6h25 ready to start running at 6h30.
For the missing link, meet at the end of Theresa Avenue at 6h25 ready to start running at 6h30.
Terrain & Distance
Both routes are mainly single track with a bit of jeep track at the start for the Grootkop route. Both routes are around 12km. The Grootkop route will take longer due to the climb.
What to bring
Water, appropriate clothes for windy, and/or wet weather, whistle, a space blanket and your ICE information
Please check the weather before you set off from home and pack the appropriate waterproof/warm gear.
Please note that TMT unfortunately does not allow dogs on its runs.

Subject: RE: TABLE MOUNTAIN TRAILERS - SATURDAY 4 November 2023: Grootkop via Kasteelspoort and tranquility Cracks
