Unfortunately Wayward Winds conflicts with Texas Youth Race Week, Gavin and I can’t make it.  I am pretty sure there are three other H16’s with the same story.

Thanks,

Boo for the conflict but yay for the kids. Good luck to all of them.

I hope not much longer before we get the best of both worlds: the kids at the Hobie regattas sailing the Hobies. I started at 12. Tomko, how old were you?

Alan,

Unfortunately it takes all of the traveling 16’s out (at least 6).I let the organizers know a year ago it would be a problem, and them reminded them in February. They chose to stick with the date. Bummer because we had a great time last year.

All-
John did reach out to me after we published our schedule at the first of the year. Unfortunately, it is impossible to schedule regattas that do not conflict with some other regatta and the schedules of the Race Officials.

When we sit down and plan out our regatta schedule we do try to schedule around other events. We finalize our regatta schedule at the first meeting of the year and publish shortly after. We do the best we can.

To give some background to the scheduling; In late 2018, we were asked if we would consider moving the date of Wayward Winds to not conflict with Youth Race Week to encourage the teams that have TSA racers.  We moved Wayward Winds to avoid Youth Race Week for 2019. ZERO boats with TSA youth raced that year. After long discussions, we decided to go back to the “traditional” second Saturday weekend event for all future regattas to maintain consistency. In 2020, Youth Race Week got canceled because of COVID. There was only one entrant that had a TSA youth racer.

We are willing to work with people on schedules, but we need the racers to work with us.

Roger and Scott,

In 2018 I wasn't sailing in Texas so I can't speak for what happened there.

Last year the one boat with a TSA racer on it happened to convince 5  Hobie 16's to show up.  I believe you guys had 32 beach cats turn up last year. That was a great turnout hopefully we can make that happen again. It will be interesting to see what the turnout is this year.

The conflict this year will take out the following 16's

Shannon Galway
John Tomko
Travis Mitchell
Judson Holt
Mark Ralph

Possibly keep the following from coming.

Mike Hardy
Alan Davis
Kyle Polzin

FYI...For 2022 Texas Youth Race Week will be July 7-10.

I hope you guys get good weather, and a good turnout this year. Maybe next year we could avoid the conflict.

I attended Wayward Winds in 2019.

Although the USODA portion of raceweek didn’t happen last year, the TSA portion did.
