Hey all,
I hope you had a great weekend!
This looks to be another wild week after Governor Hochul's course change on Congestion Pricing last week.
The Governor tried to squeeze a last minute income tax through the state legislature at the 11th hour as a stop gap funding stream for the MTA. It failed as the legislature demanded that she stop trying to put the law into her own hands and allow Congestion Pricing to go through.
Without Congestion Pricing, the following is at risk
- ADA upgrades at passenger stations
- The electrification of buses at the Yukon Bus Depot
- 1,000s of jobs (both at the MTA jobs and companies who will lose out on MTA contracts)
- Millions of dollars in federal funding that were tied to Congestion Pricing
- NYC DOT street improvements that were tied to Congestion Pricing
Meanwhile, MTA service cuts are a very real possibility, and "Gridlock" Sam Schwartz is reporting higher levels of congestion than he's seen thus far in his career.
Right now, we need to maintain pressure on Governor Hochul. At 5:30 on Wednesday afternoon, Transportation Alternatives is hosting a rally outside her midtown office at 633 Third Ave. I hope you'll come and bring along any friends who are interested and able to join!
