Happy Wednesday, all!

I wanted to update you about two upcoming City Council Hearings and opportunities for you to take part

The City's Snow Response
On February 23, the NYC City Council's Committee on Disabilities and Sanitation Committee are co-hosting an oversight hearing on NYC's snow response, or specifically "Pedestrian and Transit Accessibility During Winter Weather Event." They will discuss the broad impact of the delayed snow removal response while highlighting the impact on people with disabilities. Impacts on bus riders, pedestrians, and cyclists are all going to be discussed as well.

In advance of the hearing, TA is collecting photos and videos that magnify these issues. If you have photos or videos that you'd like to share of sidewalks, crosswalks, or curb cuts blocked by snow, people walking in the street, unusable bike lanes, or bus stops blocked blocked by snow please send them my way. Council Member Hanif is also welcoming residents with personal stories re: navigational difficulties to share those stories at the hearing. Let me know if you're interested.

The Streetsplan
On March 3rd, the NYC Council Transportation Committee is hosting a separate oversight committee hearing on the Streetsplan. During this hearing, we know the DOT is planning to propose changes to the requirements they are supposed to meet under the Streetsplan. As a reminder, the Streetsplan was a law passed in 2019 that commits the DOT to installing a specific number of bike lanes, protected bike lanes, bus lanes, leading pedestrian intervals and other street upgrades each year. Each year, the DOT tends to fall extremely short of meeting its goals.

This is likely to be a major hearing and we hope to bring out a lot of supporters. It can be a major opportunity to push the Mamdani Administration to double down on transformational streetscape reforms and show him that he has the citywide support to get it done. In the meantime, I hope you'll keep the following dates in mind:
