Hey all and happy Friday!
By now, I'm sure you've all heard the news about Congestion Pricing. I want to shed some light on what's going on.
Governor Hochul caved on Congestion Pricing at the last moment due to pressure from Democrats. Meanwhile, Congestion Pricing is the only MTA funding plan which can...
1- Combat congestion
2- Keep the MTA solvent while also funding necessary, long term transit investments
A commuter tax, which she is trying to push through Albany instead, unfairly burdens working class NYers (suburban MTA commuters from LI, the Hudson Valley, and Connecticut would be exempt) and would just barely keep the MTA afloat.
There are various upcoming opportunities to help save CP, many of which you've probably gotten alerts about from TA, Riders Alliance, or Open Plans.
In addition, you can join me at a Town Hall Tomorrow!
Charles Fall is hosting a Town Hall at noon tomorrow. As the majority leader in the Assembly, he holds tremendous power. I'll be standing with folks outside the entrance to the Town Hall tomorrow, asking him to support Congestion Pricing and stand firm against a hike to the commuter tax.
Please let me know if you can join!
