Hey all!

Happy (almost) Friday!

Hope you've been enjoying this Spring like weather!

I've got some exciting updates to share from recent meetings!

St George to Bay Ridge Fast Ferry
During a CB1 Waterfront committee meeting on Tuesday night, Captain Garvey from the DOT shared that the EDC would be conducting feasibility studies with the DOT and the Coast Guard in the near future to test if/how a fast ferry route between the St George Fast Ferry terminal and the 69th St Pier in Bay Ridge would work amid existing harbor traffic.

This is exciting because, just a year or two ago, the EDC was loath to give much thought (at least publicly) to a SI to BK route. Now, they are putting time, money, and resources into studying how the route could work. This doesn't guarantee anything, but it's a very positive sign.

Pedestrian Safety outside the St George Ferry
A few years ago, the DOT made some safety upgrades at the intersection of Richmond Terrace and Bay St, outside the ferry terminal. They included painted sidewalk extensions at crossings adjacent to the ferry terminal ramps. These painted spaces have been a help, but aren't the most safe. During the meeting I referenced, Victoria from the DOT announced that those sidewalk extensions would get concrete hardenings. Aside from the safety upgrades, this will create opportunities for public art, planters, bioswales, and other improvements to make what were once patches of concrete into colorful, sustainable, dynamic, and friendly spaces.

Transportation Survey
Also, if you haven't heard, Council Member Hanks' Office has been conducting a public transit survey to collect riders' thoughts about what they want to see improved. Here is a link to the survey. It's pretty quick and includes an opportunity to show support for a SI to South Brooklyn fast ferry!

That's great news on the feasibility study.

Sounds good. I took the survey, though I'm not a regular bus user
