I was out early today before work and went into my favorite place to have coffee and catch up on the news with my Ipod. As I clicked on Netflix to continue the mediocre new shows of a very funny old show (Arrested Development) the dang thing froze up on me. It still hasn't recovered. So, left to my own devices I pulled off my glasses and decided to quietly pray and think. I decided as a Christian Agnostic to have coffee with Jesus. Now I was born and raised in the Bible Belt and my spiritual journey has taken me from the "just so" bible stories of my youth through New Age, Agnostic, and even considered (though not with any longing.) atheism. So, here I was deciding to just talk with the Savior of my youthful and early adulthood faith.

I still remember watching Pat Robertson back in the day and cringing every time he would "scrooch up his eyes" and pray into the camera. That's because prayer has always been personal and important to me. He seemed to trivialize something that was the basis of my sanity and balance. So, I'm not being disrespectful or flippant although the title of this might seem to be so. there is also a young lady named Heidi Hollis that has a podcast and has written a book called "Jesus is no Joke" I tend to like what I've seen and heard of her. Not endorsing what she says one way or the other. I just don't get a bad vibe from her. However, I have not seen a full blown (which she says she has) physical manifestation of Jesus. I did see an angel or rather sensed one but that was a long time ago and I don't, as a rule see supernatural folks running around in the flesh. As I discussed in a different post I am drawn to the possibility of reincarnation so I'm not a fundamentalist of any kind. I'm not certain of what happens at death but I have had my own intimations of immortality.

Anyway, this morning I decided to "talk" meaning my own inner dialog, with Jesus. It was great. I'm very skeptical of people who write books talking about the conversations they have with "god" The maker of the universe always seems to share the authors politics and morals and worldview. :-) They sometime make good points but then again I can pull good points out of my butt once in a while. So, did I actually talk to the Carpenter from Nazareth? If I wake up one day outside this skin then maybe I'll ask him. But, right now I'm not completely sure. I do believe that I was in touch with the source of my spirit on some level, but what the actual "objective" level of that was I don't really know. We talked about my own inner drives and thoughts and I didn't come away with an absolute set of answers but I do feel good about the time spent.

Anyway, I'm now getting ready to start work (well, not to long from now) and I wanted to just put this out there and see if it is of interest to anybody else in the group. I've had my coffee and I've had good company so far this morning. Any thoughts from any other No Homers? :-)

Hi Steve, I sometimes have a conversation with Jesus too. It's brought about some important positive changes in my life. To be honest, I have similar conversations with other religious/spiritual teachers as well.

I guess I mostly think of these little conversations as being Socratic dialogues. However, it is interesting how your mind can split into two (or more) distinct objective personalities with different perspectives and carry out internal discussions and even debates. The Socratic method can be a very effective means of arriving at an understanding.

That said, there have been a few times when I have felt that a higher/wiser/more developed being and/or aspect of my soul has contacted my lower self with a message. Even fewer times, there has been a two way discussion with the higher being.

OTOH, Like I was saying to Bruce and Matt in one of my final posts on the Cosmic Game thread, I've worked in mental health and as a result I am always very cautious about proclaiming any subjective experience to be an objective contact with god(s). As you note, how many times do various preachers report their conversations with Jesus and, low and behold, Jesus agrees with everything they say and even favors the same sports teams and toppings on his pizza.

Nice post, Steve!

I think spirit guides will not hesitate to engage in the type of dialog you wish to engage in.
