Hi ,
I ve just bought an old Hoyer archtop jazz guitar, probably early 60s
re with f holes. cleaned it up , took off the old strings which looked
about ten yrs old, and now ready for new strings. Please can someone
tell me what type I should be lookin for , as til now Ive just played
folk with bronze.

Other thing is , it has no pickup on it , but Ive come across an old
schaller humbucker. Could I not just velcro this to the body by the
neck to avoid making holes in wood, and perhaps just put one hole for
jack? Anyone with experience of such a predicament?? please help!

Hi Chezruss and Welcome to th Swing Jazz Guitar forum. Regarding
strings, D'Addario flat wounds are a jazz favourite. For pickups, I'm
not sure that velocrose would work well. I bleive you may alos have to
glue one side, so if you are worried about damaging you guitar ...?
Drilling holes in guitars isn't something to worry about, if it's a
working guitar. Collector's guitars may be a different story. Search
the internet to see if any pickup manufacturers offer any alternatives.
