Off week...
Lola
going to hate all the repeats coming up. Oh, well, at least I might be
able to record some eps that I missed. Well, I saw them all. I just
didn't start recording them until about five or so episodes in. I was
just watching to see if I'd keep watching in the beginning.
The relationship between the brothers really drew me in. The weekly
monsters, etc., aren't the greatest but things should get better as the
writers get into their stride. The X-Files had some chessy eps as well
but even their cheesy ones were still pretty good. The writing there
was just a bit better, in my opinion.
I think this show needs to work on some key areas. The pacing is off
sometimes. The editing could use some work. They leave in things that
I wouldn't and don't include things that I would. They waste a lot of
time with the exposition of the thing they are hunting each week.
Well, I know they need to do it but I think they need a better way,
rather than having the boys discussing it with each other. Sometimes
it just seems redundant to have them telling each other things they
already know. Either have them having to explain to the person in
jeopardy, or just give us the name of the thing and then have it so we
can go to the website to read more about it if we want to. We don't
need to know the history in every single case. The reason it worked on
the X-Files, with them talking with each other, was because one was the
skeptic and the other was trying to convince the other. In this show's
case, it might work once in a while if one were trying to convince the
other but in most cases it would be disengenuous if one of the boys
didn't know what the other was talking about because they've been doing
it so long. Dean, longer than Sam but they have a habit of Sam doing
the exposition because he's the "college boy" and it really annoys me
because then Dean comes off as not knowing what he's doing and he very
well should know what he's doing since he's been doing it longer than
Sam.
I have a lot of problems with the way they write Dean. I mean, I love
the character but I feel like he too often is a joke. I have no
problem with his snarky nature and devil may care attitude but I'd like
a little more affirmation of his ability as a hunter and a fighter. We
did get to see him holding his own with the Benders until he was
whacked on the head with a frying pan but I want to see his instincts
come into play a little more. I want to see more of his street smarts
to contrast Sam's book smarts.
Well, I've rambled on long enough. I hope y'all pop in and give some
thoughts so I'm not talking to myself. lol

few days away. I was looking forward to the repeats because I was
hoping to catch some eps I missed but it looks like they're just
reshowing scarecrow, faith, and nightmare. which is good I guess, if
they're wanting to try to draw in new viewers and bring them over to
the new night. they're pretty solid episodes.
I,too, feel like they make dean the joke too often. there's a dif
between having a character be comic relief and making the character a
joke. they're straddling the line and I sure as shit hope they don't
cross it.
looking forward to shadow, though. I've only seen the preview so I
don't really know what's going on except that meg is back. like the
idea of the character but not the actress. she sucks a big one.
