Hello Suffolk Street!
As promised, I have created a google group for you all so you can talk amongst each other with garden related questions, ideas, stories, etc. Just reply to this email or email suffolkst...@googlegroups.com and everyone on the membership list will be fully informed. If you are a new member and were unable to attend the meeting last night, there are two plots available. One is for the school and the other will be shared by new members- if you’d like more information, please contact me asap.
I have attached my notes from last night, please feel free to chime in with anything I have forgotten.
Garden meetings will always be the 3rd Monday of the month- Looking forward to seeing you next month: May 17th at 6pm.
Overview:
- We discussed the garden in its new and (almost finished) state and re-established some community ground rules and connection with NYRP. (THE shed and back will be clear of EVERYTHING not related to the garden)
- NYRP is hosting a Re-opening celebration in lieu of all of the renovations that have we have now finished. As a group, we set the date : June 8th starting at 5:30pm. FOOD, MUSIC, ETC!
- Open hours will continue to be from 10am-6pm daily and ONLY members with garden plots will have keys.
- We will have monthly meetings on the 3rd Monday of each month from 6:00-7:00pm.
- There is currently $135 in the existing garden budget, we will use under $100 towards solar lighting: 8 along the pathways and maybe 2 hanging solar lanterns.
- Kristin proposed fundraising for a nice permanent brick grill: I will check with NYRP and get back to you to see if that is a possibility.
- There was a request for a compost bin of some sort. (Jasmine is assuming responsibility as compost coordinator) I will double check with NYRP to see if we can get a bin to you shortly.
- Discussed ideas for many new events: coordinating with local artists and performers for shows, monthly open mics, cake sale. IF YOU ALL meet folks within the community who are interested in performing in the garden, please have them contact me and I will help with any PR/signage you need.
- All plots assigned, leaving 1 plot for school and 1 empty for new members to share.
- If you would like to host an EVENT in the garden you must contact myself or CANDI: 347-891-2703/ ejm...@optimum.net

Hey folks,
Just wanted to let you all know that NYRP staff will be stripping the blue paint from the benches and other surfaces in the garden. We’re making the switch to natural wood for a couple of reasons: it doesn’t need to be repainted every year so it’s lower maintenance and natural wood will fit better with the new look of the garden.
I know some folks were in the garden painting today, we appreciate the initiative but ALWAYS check in with Rachael before you move forward with changes to the garden.
Please get in touch if you have any questions.
Thanks,
Angela
