Hello everyone!

It was a surprising turnout for 4:00 in the afternoon on Monday but we do appreciate taking the time out of the day to come.  In the future meetings will go back to being in the early evenings so everyone can make it!

Meeting Notes 9/13

-          We did a round of introductions and garden overview for the few new members.

o        Lisa and Elea joined us from the New Amsterdam School which opened recently just around the corner.  They are hoping to bring their classes to the garden and perhaps use a plot.  We heard that the Blue School has since moved to a new location and I am going to connect the teachers to see how they can work out sharing/turning over the school plot.  (Dawn- are you still planning on using the plot?)

o        Melanie is a longtime resident of the neighborhood and held her daughter’s 1st birthday party in the garden over the weekend.  She and her boyfriend Javier are excited to be a part of the garden and help out with any events.

o        Ashley Willhite introduced her self to everyone as well. She’s taken over Angela’s former role as Community Development Manager and will be around every now and again to check in with you all.  She’s been at NYRP for 4 years, starting out as the Brooklyn, LES regional gardener so is a definitely a friendly and familiar face.

-          Future Garden Events

o        I had mentioned in my email before about moving away from having any large events in the garden in the future.  You all are still more than welcome to have small events in the garden! This space is for you and the neighborhood afterall! We just want to avoid “renting” out the garden to non-neighborhood folks.  Candi will post the calendar on the new bulletin board (generously provided by Clay) in the shed.  Write down when you are planning to use the space or BBQ, just making sure the time and date are clear on the calendar.  For anything larger than a family bbq or whatever, check in with Candi or bring it up at the monthly meeting.  Her phone number is: 212-203-5378 or email ejm...@att.blackberry.net

o        ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS clean up the garden after yourselves though!  It is not Jason or Kara’s job to pick up trash.  If someone does host an event in the garden and leaves it a mess, it is everyone’s responsibility to get the garden back into shape again.  Please don’t call Jason stressing about the mess…and then think twice before allowing whoever it was back to repeat their mistake.

o        On October 17th the In Gardens Vision Festival will be back with live jazz in the garden from 3-5pm.

§         Francis: if you want to check in to arrange some poetry in between acts email or call Trish Parker.  I’ll also send an email to you both introducing you.  in...@visionfestival.org or 212 254 5420

-          Future Meetings

o        We are turning the planning over to you all now!  You have a really solid group and it would be wonderful if you wanted to start meeting on your own.  Everyone at the meeting wanted to set a normal monthly time and day, with a rain location.  We didn’t go ahead and pick the day because so many of you were unable to make it and should definitely have a say to when the meetings are.

o        Feel free to chime in with good times!

-          Plant Care

o        For the most part, it’s best if you all just stick to caring for your own beds but if you do want to do any additional work or watering, - check in with Kara first.  Her email is: 6467633656 or email is kkolo...@nyrp.org

o        Fall crops!  The time has come to plant things thrive in cooler weather again. Peas, lettuces, radishes, beets, kale, etc.  So get digging!

-          Hooligans in the garden

o        Candi has done a great job of kicking out those kids time and time again, even had the cops swing by one time as a final warning…hopefully we won’t encounter any more problems, but if you do, feel free to get the authorities involved…they’ve been warned…

For those of you who were in attendance- if there is anything I missed please feel free to add in now!

Thanks everyone and let us know when you decide on the meeting date and time!

Rachael
