Dear Friends and Fellow Gardeners,

I am wondering if we have a meeting scheduled.  Lots of sprouts popping and seeds germinating!  I would also like to propose putting a bird bath in the middle of the square area which is presently sodded over. Perhaps I/we could have a bird bath benefit!

Ciao,

I was wondering the same thing.  We look forward to planting in our bed as soon as possible!
Let us know.  Thanks for getting the ball rolling, Francis.

Hi everyone,

Hope you are enjoying the cleansing rain of recent days.

AHRC NYC would like to resume their volunteer contribution at the Garden and start planting in the plot which was assigned to the group last year (first one on the right from the gate as you enter) We have already purchased some seedlings.

We will have the garden doors open to the public on Tuesdays 10am-12pm.

Please let us know when the next meeting will take place so one of us can attend.

Look forward to seeing everyone again soon. Have a wonderful rest of the day!

Dear Yuliya,

You must check in with Dorothy before planting.  At our first Spring meeting we assigned the plots and the one you mentioned is no longer available.  However, there is one plot that remains available (I believe); the second one on the left (looking in from the gate).  It belonged to Kristin last year.

Please  let me know if you need any help-

Thank you Francis for the e-mail. I will instruct the group to call Doris when they visit on Tuesday to make sure we do not plant in someone else’s plot.

Sorry to have missed the meeting. I will definitely come to the next one.

Please let us know if you want volunteers to do anything specific when they are in the garden.

Have a great weekend! Hope the rain will ease off on us a bit  so we can thoroughly enjoy the spring.

Hello All --

I haven't said much on the list lately so I wanted to reach out, say hello and all. Apologies that I missed the first meeting - I totally messed up the date in my calendar.

In regards to the below, maybe there is another Kristin besides myself, but I'm in the end plot on the south side closest to the garden shed. I planted on May 8th.

Question, any news on when the water will be fixed? I'm having difficulties keeping my plot watered as there is not always a vehicle to carry the water from th

One other quick question, who administers this list? I used to administer the yahoo list but we aren't using that one anymore. Just curious.

Thanks All & See ya in the Garden!

Hi!

Alyson here.

I too was wondering about the water, but luckily Ms. Nature is supplying in abundance these days!  Francis is right about that second plot on the left, facing the shed.

Here - from my sketchy notes, sorry for any omissions! - is what happened at the last meeting, for anyone who wasn't able to attend.  Maybe we should do a 'roll call' on this googlegroup to see who all is on board and make sure we're not missing anyone vital - like our Garden Coordinators.

ATTENDING:
Doris, Francis, Andi, Naomi, Clay, Tahar, Alyson, Lisa Chodorkoff from NYPR

ASSIGNED PLOTS
There are 10 beds.

Looking in from the gate, they appear to be assigned as follows:
Right side (along southern wall)
1.  Ray & Millie
2.  School
3.  Doris & Candy
4.  Kristin Ellington

Left Side (along north wall, from closest to the entrance gate)
5.  Francis & Andi
6.
7. Alyson + Ruby + Lake
8. Clay

SEEDLINGS FROM NYRP
May 20 - Friday, seedlings will be delivered

MEETINGS
There will be four throught the season with NYRP.  We are encouraged to have other meetings whenever possible among the gardners, to keep communication clear and open.

CONTACT
NYRP will be in contact with Doris and Clay as the Garden Coordinators, who will then get in touch with everyone else.

Hope this helps.

Best,
Alyson

Dear Suffolk Garden,
I am simply a frequenter of the garden at this time. I would like to eventually get more involved, but I am curious why the garden is majoritively locked. I work at the Landscape Architecture and Garden Design office around the corner and can definitely appreciate a good local garden during my lunch break each day from 12-1pm to sit in the sun and read. Will you have more open hours now that the summer is here?

Hi Dena,

That question and the ones about this list need to be answered by the Garden Coordinators, Clay and Doris.  I believe Clay is the one who opens the garden daily.
The questions about seedlings need to be answered by Lisa, because I'm curious about when tomorrow as well.

Best,
Alyson

Hello,

This came from Lisa, our NYRP contact.  Apparently, she couldn't send it directly to the group.  Could someone please add her to the list, as well as Doris and Clay.  I would if I knew how but I don't have the faintest idea!  Francis, are you the email expert here?

See ya Tuesday or Wednesday - just save me some spinach seedlings, please!

Thanks,

Hello Suffolk Street Community Garden Group,

I’m glad the google group is becoming active again—it is always nice to have a couple forms of communication going around.  Just be sure that Doris and Clay are included in group decisions (like planting beds) to avoid any misunderstandings.

The seedlings will actually be delivered on May 24th or 25th during the day. Our crews deliver them on the course of their garden routes, so an exact time is hard to estimate. There are tons of great veggies and herbs (tomatoes, pole beans, parsley, eggplant etc.). It may be worthwhile to have a gathering in the evening of their arrival to distribute them equally—many gardens have this sort of arrangement.

In terms of water we have been waiting on GreenThumb Registration to allow hydrant access—however, it should be available for a hose hook-up by now.  I will Call Doris to double check on Registration forms today—I am trying to remember, is there a watcher catchment system in the garden?

Feel free to contact me with any questions.

Thanks, Jason

I'm chaperoning a field trip for Ruby's 2nd grade class today.  If anyone can put aside some spinach, lettuce, peas or other green vegetable for us, I'd really appreciate it!  We're the third plot from the gate on the left side.

Thanks, Neighbors!

Hello Alyson..

Im sorry about any confusion but we are offering 'warm season' vegetables(tomatoes, peppers, eggplants ect..). What you are looking for are vegetables that grow in 'cool' conditions from March-May and Sept to November.

You can grow some of these with success in part shade conditions (which suffolk) has and they are best directly sown by seed into your garden bed. Talk with Lisa about getting some seeds into your hands.

Take care and enjoy the weeekend.
