Hello garden members,
It has come to our attention that the gates have been left open in the evenings even though Doris locks them at dusk each night.
The gates MUST be locked at dusk- do not leave the garden open overnight. Also, even when you are in the garden, lock the padlock to itself so someone doesn’t run off with it.
And once again, if you are holding parties or events in the garden you must adhere to the NO ALCOHOL or DRUGS policy. Apparently the garden was trashed this weekend and that is absolutely unacceptable. This is a beautiful space to be enjoyed by all, children included. After events the garden must be left exactly as found.
Thank you,
Rachael

Hi Francis,
As far as I know, there was no meeting (at least with me) on Monday. From now on there will always be meetings on the 3rd Monday of every month but I had sent out an email to the group just letting everyone know we’ll meet informally on the day of the reopening celebration on June 8th instead.
Give me a call when you get a chance and we can talk more about the poetry readings!

Dear Fellow Gardeners.
t was brought to my attention that there was a meeting on monday- does anyone have the minutes from this meeting? When was this meeting called and how was it advertised? I would have liked to attend had I known it was happening.
best regards,
Francis

I’d like to meet with everyone briefly on June 8th at 6:00pm before the party to discuss these guidelines, specifically around events in the garden. In the past there were decisions made regarding how to rent out the garden. We should discuss as a group how many times a month we want to permit this- generally in all NYRP gardens we limit these types of non-member events to once a month. In addition it is very important that the event request form is filled out and the voluntary donation sent to me at NYRP. We absolutely can not require anyone to pay for events in the garden but if they do choose to give a voluntary donation- the money will go back into the garden fund for things like solar lights, bbqs, etc. I attached the form but there are some on the garden binder in the shed as well.
This is a community space to be enjoyed and utilized by everyone for both gardening and recreation so it is important to have everyone’s opinions voiced at the table.
I will be switching the front lock to the garden on June 8th as there has been some confusion around which lock is currently on the gate. I will have new copies made for all of the members with beds and will distribute them there as well.
If you are on this email list and are still interested in getting involved- come on June 8th and we’ll take it from there!
Just another reminder that vegetable and herb seedlings are being dropped off on Friday. Put those babies in the ground by Sunday so they don’t wither away please!
Looking forward to seeing you all soon,
Rachael

On behalf of my family and I, I would like to thank all who made the
party at the Garden possible (particularly Rachel). It was a very
positive, community building event which is what the Garden space is
all about. We recognize and value the generosity of those who have
funded the Suffolk Street Garden, its events, and done such a fabulous
job to make this space possible.
Thank you!
Francis, Andi and Max
First, I would like to say that the benches and arbor (being restored
to its natural wood) look great! Thanks to whoever made that
possible.
I do however have some concerns. During the stripping of the paint,
some of the beds where misted over by bluish debris. I am wondering
if this could be toxic. Has this paint been tested for lead? What
were the chemicals used to strip the paint?
thanks,
Francis
So wonderful to spend some time with you last week!
No worries- the paint is just an exterior latex paint, definitely no
lead. (they stopped putting lead in paint years ago)
As we decided upon, the meetings will continue to be the 3rd Monday of
each month so I'll see you all again next Monday the 21st at 6pm.
Thanks!

Francis...
I would like to meet you in the garden to discuss a few things that have happened recently in the garden regarding certain pruning of bushes/vines.
Would you be available Thursday late morning/early afternoon? I will be there reseeding the lawn area.

And the vines.....I noticed them early last week before any sanding was done. There were no chemicals used to remove the paint from those posts. They were deliberatly cut as was the Hydrangea bush.
We'll talk more tomorrow.

Please excuse and spelling or grammatical errors as this message was sent via cell phone.
Last year when our family came to the garden and found that our herb
garden was totally removed by NYRP without even giving us the heads up
to collect our plants first, I did not accused anyone of deliberately
cutting our plants. And please note: this was devastating to our
family who had worked all summer on our herb garden and our 5 year old
son Max in particular. Perhaps we should discuss this too.
I wish you would of brought that up then Francis. But yeah lets please talk more about that.
I am a bit concerned about the. 'pruning' that was done around your vegetable bed without any consulation with NYRP. I realize your a new member of the garden but this does not follow our protocol(which differs from traditional community gardens) and I want to make sure it does not happen again and we are on the same page.
I appreciate your work and zeal for the garden. Look forward to talking with you in person about this.
Take care.
