Hello Fellow Savoyards and Friends of the Sudbury Savoyards:

Come celebrate the Sudbury Savoyard 2015 season with Patience, or Bunthorne’s Bride. The 6th comic opera collaboration by Gilbert and Sullivan, Patience was first performed at the Opera Comique, London, on 23 April 1881, it moved to the 1,292-seat Savoy Theatre on 10 October 1881, where it was the first theatrical production in the world to be lit entirely by electric light. Henceforth, the Gilbert and Sullivan comic operas would be known as the Savoy Operas, and both fans and performers of Gilbert and Sullivan would come to be known as "Savoyards. William S. Gilbert's biting pen satirizes the aesthetic movement of populist art that venerated all things classical, medieval and Grecian. If it was not contemporary, the aesthetics loved it. All the well-born ladies in the village, rapturously caught up in aestheticism, are in love with the two contrasting poets - one being a "fleshly poet" and the other an "idyllic poet". But the poets are in love with Patience, the simple village milkmaid, who cares nothing for poetry. The ladies' military suitors don't see the point to aesthetics but they decide to give it a try in order to win the women's hearts. Sound exciting? You too can be part of this terrific production by joining our baking team, or volunteering to work House Staff.

Bakers provide the homemade treats to sell at our concession table. Last year our wonderful assortment of homemade cookies, brownies, bars, cupcakes, and the all time favorite Rice Krispie Treats, literally flew off the tables. And our specialty gluten-free, and diabetic items were an added bonus for those patrons for whom it was a big deal. For those of you who are so inclined, cookies and bars would be a welcome addition to our concession table.

If you are not a baker, then please consider volunteering to work House Staff, a.k.a. an usher. It is the House Staff that creates that most important first impression on our audience.  In addition to free admission to the production, your reward is the satisfaction you receive from your gracious and courteous service to our patrons. Our theme this year is Poetic/Floral, colors this year will be pastels. Hats of course, are welcome.

The dates for this years’ production are as follows:

Thursday, February 19, 8:00 pm Dress Rehearsal

Friday, February 20, 8:00 pm

Saturday, February 21, 8:00 pm

Sunday, February 22, 2:00 pm

Friday, February 27, 8:00 pm

Saturday, February 28 at 2:00 and 8:00 pm

As you know, proceeds from our productions are donated to world hunger relief. Remember that through your kindness and generosity you are contributing to this noble cause.

We look forward to hearing from you!
