Sub.: Campaign “Paschim Paila” (“Mission Mid-West”) kicked off
Dear Sir/Madam,
In order to respond to the diarrhoeal epidemic in the west of Nepal, various civil society and youth groups have initiated a campaign called “Paschim Paila” or “Mission Mid-West” which will immediately send trained youth volunteers with essential supplies to launch awareness campaigns on safe water, sanitation and hygiene, and distribute emergency materials such as chlorine solution for water purification and oral rehydration salts (ORS). This is a voluntary campaign led by Nepalese youth to help fellow Nepalese suffering from diarrhoea in the Mid-West.
The main objectives of the campaign are as follows:
- Assist in controlling the diarrhea epidemic in the mid-west by mobilizing youth to go the field to raise awareness and increase access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH)
- Mobilize youth, mostly from Kathmandu Valley, to learn about their country and about WASH and contribute their efforts for a cause.
- Mobilize the collective efforts of Nepalese, particularly the WATSAN community, to fight a simple disease that is causing so much damage.
- Use the hype generated by the current crisis to make drastic improvements in the WATSAN situation in the mid-west and the rest of the country.
The first group of Volunteers will be dispatched to the field. A group of 2 to 3 volunteers with supplies will be sent to each VDC. The volunteers will raise awareness on WASH, distribute relief materials such as PIYUSH and ORS, organize campaigns to chlorinate reservoirs and clean water sources, and collect information on the local situation on water and sanitation.
You are kindly requested to attend the see-off event and motivate the youths tomorrow. We will observe a candle light vigil in the memory of the deceased.
