I know we are all feeling like this powerlines are not going to run
though our backywards. I just want to remind people that the route is
not yet finalized. The alternate route still is designated at the RR
tracks from Norwich to Binghamton. Since NYRI has paid a million
dollars per year (totalling about 5 million) for the rights to use
the RR tracks, we don't want to assume they are no longer interested.
And have you all driven north on RT 12 recently? The RR track from
Chenango Forks to Norwich is no longer being used as a rail line. It
looks like a parking lot for tanker and freight cars and none of them
are going anywhere. Looks like a mighty nice route for powerlines and
with none of the nasty safety issues about the compatibility of
freight trains with DC powerlines.
And just why would NYRI be paying for a lease of this property if they
never plan on using it?
If I can, I want to travel up to Sherberne for the rally and hear the
latest on the DOE designation of the transmission corridors. (NIETC).

Citizens from Stop NYRI will rally Saturday in Sherburne to mark one
year of active opposition to a $1.6 billion high-voltage power line
proposed by New York Regional Interconnect.
The event, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the Sherburne village green, will
feature speakers talking about the power line and the U.S. Department
of Energy's recent announcement that much of Central New York is
included in one of its proposed "national interest electric
transmission corridors."
A weather balloon will be raised to demonstrate the height of the
proposed towers, and energy-efficient light bulbs will be given away
to encourage energy conservation. For more information, visit www.nyri.info.
