 Daniel Dye reinstated, but loses Kaulig Truck ride (NASCAR Trucks)
Daniel Dye was reinstated by NASCAR on Tuesday after completing mandatory sensitivity training in response to homophobic comments made about NTT IndyCar Series competitor David Malukas during an appearance in a March Whatnot live stream.
Dye had been suspended by both NASCAR and Kaulig Racing on March 17, when clips of the stream surfaced on social media.
But while he may be eligible for NASCAR competition, it won’t be coming with Kaulig Racing. The team confirmed Tuesday that it is moving on from Dye, with plans to field Corey LaJoie in its truck for the rest of the 2026 season.
Dye was one of five drivers selected by Kaulig to fill its roster for Ram’s return to the Craftsman Truck Series. He had made three starts with a best finish of 13th and sat within reach of the playoff field prior to his suspension.
“I’m incredibly thankful for my time in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series and for the chance to compete with Kaulig Racing alongside some of the most passionate fans in motorsports,” Dye said in a statement. “At this time, I am stepping away from that role. NASCAR has played a meaningful role in my development, and I don’t take that opportunity lightly.
“After a lot of honest self‑reflection and guidance from mentors I trust, I’ve decided the smartest move for my career is to realign my focus on my long‑term objective of becoming a successful driver at the highest level of stock car racing. Now that I’m reinstated, I’m optimistic about what the future holds and look forward to working hard at my next opportunity.
“This sport and its fans mean everything to me, and I can’t wait to get back to it focused on the real goal more than ever.”
LaJoie’s arrival comes after he made an appearance in Kaulig’s all-star Truck at Darlington Raceway, where he finished 21st. LaJoie was also slated to fill the truck for Rockingham Speedway, but will be replaced by Ty Dillon as he steps over to the No. 10 Ram full-time.
“We selected Corey because of his extensive experience in just about every series in NASCAR and how well he worked with our organization at Darlington when he drove the No. 25,” Kaulig Racing CEO Chris Rice said of the move. “He brings the skill, maturity, and work ethic we need to get our Ram program where it needs to be. We think he’ll help us speed that development and battle for checkered flags. We’re confident he’s the right driver to help us.”

CARS Tour locks in Wake County results after Monday audit (Short Tracks)
The CARS Tour’s weekend trip to Wake County Speedway turned messy on Saturday evening - so messy, in fact, that changes came after a Monday audit of the race’s results.
Conner Jones claimed the attrition-filled affair. That fact held, albeit after some review. I’ll just let Short Track Scene’s Matt Weaver explain:
He ran out of fuel under caution after the completion of 166 laps. The field took the green again with 166 laps completed and reached 167 laps completed at which point another caution came out before reaching 168 laps completed, meaning the running order reverted to the previous lap completed, 166.
This is standard operating procedure for the CARS Tour even if it ran into a unique circumstance on Saturday.
With cautions aplenty and caution laps not counting, fuel mileage came into play. But race officials opted not to call cars to pit road to refuel in response to a similar controversy in 2023 where they made the opposite decision.
That wasn’t the only issue at hand, though. A transponder issue meant that Sam Butler’s No. 16 was credited with second upon the audit despite initially being scored a lap down in sixth. He had rejoined the lead lap through various free passes and raced through to second in the closing stretch - a feat officials were able to confirm after the fact.
A couple other decisions were confirmed. CARS Tour officials stood by a penalty to black flag then-leader Clay Jones for failure to address damage to his car. Jones tried to use the wall to take care of hanging damage, but was instructed to go to the pit area to address it and chose not to.
Series leadership also confirmed plans to talk to Mini Tyrrell and Doug Barnes Jr. to discuss their race-costing run ins during the course of Saturday’s event. Barnes was officially suspended for one race later in the day, with both drivers also being placed on probation.
Just another day in the life of those running short track racing tours, I suppose.

If you think wins are less valuable in NASCAR’s returning Chase era, you might want to look at the standings. Buoyed by the significant increase in bonus points, the season’s four winners to date sit first through fourth in the championship standings.
It’s still early in the 2026 season, but it’s clear that wins can make a huge difference for a field that otherwise finds itself running closely together.
