#34-Layne Riggs led all but two laps to win the TSport 200 NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series race at the Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park Friday night. The win is his fifth of the season, second at Indianapolis, and the 10th truck win of his career spanning
70 starts.
Riggs started from the pole, won the opening stages, and paced the field for 198 of the 200 laps. Had it not been for a slow restart, he would have led all 200.
#7-Connor Mosack finished just over a second behind Riggs in the runner-up position. #88-Ty Majeski was third.
#38-Chandler Smith won last week’s race at North Wilkesboro and locked himself into the 10-man Chase standings during the Indianapolis race. He led two laps following a restart on lap 72 when Riggs appeared to miss a shift. He finished fourth.
#91-Christian Eckes had a rough night with an alternator issue and finished 33rd. He finished second to Riggs in stage 2 before his troubles began. Though he had a poor finish, like Smith, he was able to secure a spot in the Chase.
#17-Gio Ruggiero had a quiet race and finished 13th. His finish locked him in as the fifth driver to advance to the Chase with just two races remaining before the cutoff.
#77-Nick Sanchez, #52-Stewart Friesen, #11-Kaden Honeycutt, #1-Gavan Boschele, #18-Tyler Ankrum, and #62-Michael Christopher, Jr. were the top-10.
There were two lead changes among two drivers and three caution flags for 25 yellow flag laps.

Alex Bowman set to retire from full-time Cup racing after 2027 season (NASCAR Cup)
Hendrick Motorsports announced Thursday that Bowman, 33, has signed a one-year contract extension, with plans to retire from full-time Cup competition upon its conclusion. The season will be his 10th with Hendrick and 12th overall at the Cup level.
“I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about what’s next, and this feels like the right decision at the right time,” Bowman said in a team statement. “The sport asks a lot of you, and I’ve learned it’s important to listen to your body and make the right choices
for yourself. To say I’m incredibly grateful to Mr. Hendrick, our partners at Ally and Chevrolet, and everyone at Hendrick Motorsports would be an understatement. They believed in me and gave me the biggest opportunity of my life.
“My focus now is on making the most of my time on the race track and competing for wins. We still have a lot to accomplish, and I want to close my career on a high note for our team and our fans. To have the chance to do that with this organization and these
people is really special.”
Bowman’s rise to Hendrick came with the unfortunate aid of injuries for Dale Earnhardt Jr. The Arizonian arrived at the team in 2016, substituting for Earnhardt alongside Jeff Gordon while NASCAR’s most popular driver sat out with a concussion. He parlayed
that into a full-time effort when Earnhardt retired from full-time competition in 2018, piloting his No. 88 Chevrolet until a switch to the No. 48 after Jimmie Johnson retired in 2021.
Along the way have been periods of intense peaks and valleys. Bowman won at least once each year from 2019 through 2022 and even notched four victories in 2021. But his time in the sport’s Next Gen era has also been filled with struggles and unfortunate injuries.
Bowman suffered concussion-like symptoms that sidelined him for five races in 2022. He led the early standings the following year, only to miss three races after suffering a broken vertebra in a sprint car crash. The next two season were generally quiet, albeit
with a marquee Chicago Street Race win in 2024. But three years later, Bowman has missed four races with vertigo and has his worst average finish (21.8) to date with Hendrick Motorsports.
Running for the Chevrolet frontrunner, those results have kept Bowman in hot seat discussions during recent years. But with his path assured, the Arizonian will be able to make the most of one final season and attempt to take home some trophies along the way.
“Alex has meant so much to our organization for a long time,” Hendrick Motorsports Owner Rick Hendrick said in a team release. “He’s overcome adversity, won big races and represented our team and partners with professionalism, personality and class.
“Alex is a tremendous talent in the race car and an even better person outside of it. We’re proud he’ll have the opportunity to finish his full-time career with us on his terms. He’s family.”

NASCAR’s Clash reportedly returning to Daytona in 2027 (NASCAR Cup)
Fans of the Clash (and proper Speedweeks) returning to Daytona International Speedway rejoice.
Your hopes are reportedly coming true.
The Clash has existed since 1979, initially meant as a brief sprint to kick off Speedweeks and build hype for the race’s crown jewel, the Daytona 500. For years, it served that purpose well. But in the 2010s, the race’s popularity waned and team owners grew
frustrated with the significant bills for an exhibition as many of the races featured heavy attrition.
NASCAR briefly responded to that by shifting the race to Daytona’s road course in 2021. But it went in a different direction entirely to kick off the Next Gen era in 2022, taking the exhibition to the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. The sport stayed there for
three years before holding the race at Winston-Salem’s iconic Bowman Gray Stadium to kick off each of the past two seasons.
With the benefit of time apart and hindsight, many in NASCAR have called for the race to return to its traditional home to give the Daytona 500 a proper build for a marquee event. Now those calls appear to be bearing fruit.
It’s uncertain if Bowman Gray will retain any presence on the NASCAR calendar or if any other shifts will come to the season’s early slate. Without any other changes, Cup Series teams would be tasked with contesting four-consecutive drafting races to open the
season between Daytona (Clash, Duels, Daytona 500) and EchoPark Speedway.

Sepang being tested for feasibility as F1 explores calendar options (F1)
The Malaysian government is currently conducting a feasibility study tied to potentially organizing a last-second Malaysia Grand Prix at Sepang International Circuit. This comes as the United States and Israel continue to wage war with Iran, a conflict that
already led to skipped races in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia.
There were hopes that F1 could wedge Bahrain back into the October gap between Baku and Singapore on its schedule. But with hostilities flaring back up and potentially escalating further moving forward, Bahrain is likely to be abandoned shortly.
Enter Malaysia.
Malaysian Youth and Sports Minister Dr. Mohammed Taufiq Johari confirmed indictions of a potential F1 return Friday, saying that “KBS remains committed to its mission of continuing to support the development of national sports, including motorsports.
“Any further developments will be announced once they have been finalized,” he added.
A proper F1 return would be a surprise for Sepang. The track is a fixture on the MotoGP calendar, but it hasn’t hosted F1 since 2017 - well before the tour’s explosion in popularity in the early 2020s. It’s uncertain whether it will happen, but Malaysia’s internal
assessment will give F1 management an idea of how feasible the Kuala Lumpur circuit could be as a last-second addition to the calendar.
Don’t be surprised if future schedule shifts arise. F1 could find itself searching for replacements for Qatar and Abu Dhabi at year’s end, with Portimao a likely landing spot for one of those dates.
