IMSA: As has been the case many times in recent years, 24 hours of battle ultimately came down to the final minutes in the IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship’s annual opener at Daytona International Speedway.
Pushed to the limit from a hard-charging Jack Aitken in the No. 31 Cadillac, Felipe Nasr withstood the pressure and navigated traffic masterfully over a tense final hour to claim the Rolex 24 for Porsche Penske Motorsport’s No. 7 team. It was the third-straight triumph for both the team and the Brazilian, who triumphed alongside new victors Laurin Heinrich and Julian Andlauer. The battle was tight, ending with just 1.5 seconds between the top-two after Aitken nearly snatched the lead in the closing minutes.
It wasn’t the only one to come down to a late fight, either. In the GTD category, a fierce late fight between Winward Racing’s Philip Ellis and Magnus Racing’s Nicki Thiim nearly ended in ruin.

The other two classes saw battles and drama of their own, but ultimately ended without any late chaos. CrowdStrike Racing by APR triumphed comfortably in the LMP2 class, while Paul Miller Racing overcame a difficult start to score the victory in GTD Pro. (RJ O’Connell / RACER)
 
Over the race’s 24 hours, IMSA’s annual showcase provided numerous memorable moments. The race started with chaos, suffered a six-hour caution for intense fogand saw two notable engine failures during the closing stretch.
