Race Recaps
NASCAR
Cup Series: The race didn’t play out in his usual dominant style, but when it counted Ryan Blaney rose to the front for another win at Phoenix Raceway.
On a day dominated by Christopher Bell but featuring many comers and goers, Blaney took advantage of a late decision to pit from Bell’s No. 20 team to claim the Straight Talk Wireless 500.
Ty Gibbs had inherited the lead when Bell pitted, but Blaney was able to chase him down and secure the top spot after a restart with 11 laps to go. Bell surged to the front on his fresh rubber in the closing laps, but fell just .399s short of another spring Phoenix win. (NASCAR.com)
O’Reilly Auto Parts Series: Justin Allgaier wasn’t the dominant car on the night or even the best entry from JR Motorsports for most of Saturday’s GOVX 200. But after a pair of accident-free opening stages, a late caution allowed the 2024 series champion to march to the front.
Allgaier spent most of the night rallying back from a slow pit stop. He snuck to the front in the end and surged past defending champion Jesse Love - who won in dominant fashion at the same track to secure the title last fall - to claim the victory. (Holly Cain / NASCAR.com)
Carson Kvapil passed Love for the lead in the third stage, but wound up third at race’s end. The top-14 cars all had one thing in common - they drove Chevrolets.
ARCA Menards Series: Richard Childress Racing has another strong prospect on its hands.
In the kickoff of a busy race weekend, Carson Brown dominated and survived a late restart to score a Phoenix victory for Pinnacle Racing Group. It was a redemptive result for the team, who lost the same race in a one-lap dash with Brenden Queen in 2025. (Brandon White / ARCARacing.com)

IndyCar
IndyCar: The situation was flipped from Saturday’s IndyCar feature to Sunday’s Cup race. But the end result was the same - a Team Penske win.
After lurking in the top-10 all race, Josef Newgarden pitted as others stayed out during a late caution and ripped through the field in the closing stretch to secure another oval win the Good Ranchers 250.(Paul Kelly / IndyCar.com)
Christian Rasmussen was the star of the day, once again wowing onlookers with a host of daredevil moves in a short oval race. But he was damaged in contact with Will Power and faded down the stretch, hitting the wall again while fighting Newgarden for second and dropped down to 14th. (Curt Cavin / IndyCar.com )
The biggest surprise came early, when the seemingly-indomitable Alex Palou was knocked out by a crash with Rinus Veekay. Palou lost the points lead to Newgarden after crashing out of his 100th series start. (Joey Barnes / Motorsport)
Formula 1
F1: Formula 1’s new era is underway with a familiar group out front.
George Russell and Kimi Antonelli gave Mercedes a 1-2 result in the season-opening Australian Grand Prix. Ferrari gave the duo a challenge, but had to settle for third and fourth with Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton after failing to seize a strategy opportunity.

Lando Norris and Max Verstappen followed, with Verstappen powering through after suffering a rare qualifying crash on Saturday. Their fellow title rival from last year, home country hero Oscar Piastri, suffered a dramatic crash on the way to the grid and never got to turn a lap. (F1.com)
That must’ve been a bummer for the race’s four-day record crowd. (Andrew van Leeuwen / Speedcafe)
F2:

For those keeping track, IndyCar transplant Colton Herta qualified 14th after suffering a practice crash, but managed to steal some points with a seventh-place run in the feature.
F3:

Dirt
World of Outlaws Sprint Cars: Donny Schatz is back in business.
The all-time great Outlaws driver finally bounced back from his difficult, tenure-ending 2025 campaign with Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing to score a comeback win with CJB Motorsports at the Talladega Short Track. He started from pole and never looked back.
Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series:

Short Tracks
SMART Modified Tour: Danny Bohn notched his first win of the season at the 3/8-mile Anderson Motor Speedway, continuing his strong start to 2026. (Rence Brown / Short Track Scene)

Alabama 200: Jake Finch is an expert at Montgomery Motor Speedway. He put the track time and expertise to use for a big Alabama 200 win on Saturday night ahead of Dylan Fetch, Gage Gilby, Presley Johnson and Christopher Tullis. (Matt Weaver / Short Track Scene)

Drag Racing
NHRA: Josh Hart hadn’t touched a Wally in a few years, but he struck in his debut with John Force Racing. Hart beat champ Doug Kalitta to claim the Top Fuel portion of the Amalie Motor Oil NHRA Gatornationals. (NHRA.com)
Chad Green (Funny Car), Matt Hartford (Pro Stock) and Richard Gadson (Pro Stock Motorcycle) also claimed victories.

Number of the Day: 6
Ryan Blaney’s been on a tear at Phoenix Raceway. The 2023 Cup Series champion has finished top-two in six of the past eight Cup Series races at the track, with another fifth-place run in one of the other two appearances. You can pencil the 12 team into winning contention whenever NASCAR ventures to Arizona.
