Citroen Racing Team Principal Cyril Blais dead at 43 (Formula E)
Citroen Racing Formula E’s Team Principal, Cyril Blais, died suddenly last week. He was 43.
“We are all so saddened to lose Cyril,” Citroen Racing’s Managing Director, Beth Pareto, said in a statement. “Many of the team have known and worked with him for several years. Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and colleagues throughout the paddock.
“Cyril believed so much in this team and we will respect his family’s wishes to honor him in the best way we can, by continuing to race in his memory with the exact dedication and passion he instilled in all of us.”
Blais first arrived in motorsport as part of the Formula 1 ladder system, working as an engineer for Manor Motorsport and then Arden in Formula 3. He later became Arden’s technical director in F3 and Formula 2 before making the shift to Formula E as a race engineer for Mahindra in 2019.
From that moment on, Formula E was Blais’ home. He continued on with Mahindra until joining what ultimately became Citroen in 2022. He was promoted to the team principal role when the team was still branded as Maserati in 2024 and guided its transition to the Citroen name. Along the way, the organization won a pair of races, including a Mexico City E-Prix win with Nick Cassidy in January. It currently sits seventh in the constructors standings.
No cause of death has been revealed and no official comments beyond initial statements were provided out of respect for the family’s privacy and wishes. It’s uncertain who will fill his role when Formula E gets back underway this weekend in Tokyo.
A few drivers have offered words of respect for Blais, who was beloved within the series and whose death will reverberate through the paddock moving forward.
Formula E CEO Jeff Dodds said in his statement that “the Citroën Racing Formula E Team and the wider Formula E community will pay tribute to Cyril’s memory and incredible legacy during this weekend’s Tokyo E-Prix.”

The win gives the Chip Ganassi Racing ace an 83-point championship advantage with six races remaining, positioning Palou to claim a fourth-straight indyCar title.
