 Justin Haley out at Spire for 2026 (NASCAR Cup)
Justin Haley is Spire Motorsports’ lone Cup Series race winner and returned to the program with great fanfare for 2025. But after a disappointing season in the No. 7 Chevrolet, Spire’s cutting ties with the Hoosier for 2026.
Haley came over to replace Corey LaJoie at the end of the 2024 season, returning to the organization after a stint with Rick Ware Racing. With Spire setting its sights further up the grid, veteran crew chief Rodney Childers atop the pit box and many signing his praises from prior starts, Haley arrived with lofty expectations. But the program quickly went awry.
Childers was out in the spring after the 2014 title winner failed to mesh with the team. Haley continued on, but has never found his footing in the ride. The 26-year-old currently sits 31st in the standings, well behind veteran teammate Michael McDowell (21st) and promising sophomore Carson Hocevar (23rd).
“This is a decision that was not taken lightly,” Spire Motorsports co-owner Jeff Dickerson said in a team release. “Justin has been a member of the Spire family since he was a teenager. We’ve watched Justin grow from a young driver trying to make his mark in the sport to a proven winner. He helped strengthen our organization into what it is today. He made us winners and returned home after forging his own path in the Cup Series.
“Justin is the embodiment of a true racer who has quietly become a respected competitor within the NASCAR garage and will be an incredible asset to his next team.”
No successor was named in Tuesday’s announcement, but one is expected. The Athletic’s Jordan Bianchi reported that Daniel Suarez is the leading candidate to take over the ride, shifting to Spire after his impending exit from Trackhouse Racing.

Rinus Veekay signs with Juncos Hollinger for 2026 (IndyCar)
The team confirmed Veekay’s signing Tuesday, reuniting with the 25-year-old for 2026 after running for the former Juncos Racing in both Pro Mazda (now USF Pro 2000) and Indy Lights (now Indy NXT) from 2018 through 2019.
“I’m excited to officially announce my move to Juncos Hollinger Racing,” VeeKay said in a team press release. “This is a team with real momentum, high ambitions, and a clear vision for the future. There’s a shared determination to compete at the highest level, and I’m confident that together we can achieve great things.”
Veekay’s arrival comes after a strong season with Dale Coyne Racing, who he guided to 14th in the 2025 standings with a consistent campaign. The Dutch driver arrived at DCR after five years with Ed Carpenter Racing and slotted right between the two drivers for his former team.
He’ll replace Conor Daly, who came home 18th off the strength of his oval performances. The team will hope to foster improvement on road and street circuits with Veekay to establish itself as a more consistent contender.
It’s uncertain how long Veekay will remain with the organization. There was no mention of a multiyear deal in the initial announcement, meaning he’s likely signed for 2026 alone. That would position the one-time winner to throw himself into what could be a significant silly season for 2027, where all top teams could have at least one opening to fill.

Track position can be key to success at Talladega Superspeedway in the Next Gen era - but it doesn’t fully tie to starting position. Of the seven Cup winners with the current car, just two have started in the top-10. Winners during the stretch have an average starting position of 17.0.
