Cup Series: Win No. 60 couldn’t have come at a better time.
At the end of a tense Round of 8 opener in Sin City, Denny Hamlin found himself third with time running out. But the Joe Gibbs Racing star dug in and delivered another iconic moment, sailing past Kyle Larson in the high lane and chasing down teammate Chase
Briscoe, who had taken a two-tire gamble after a late yellow, to reach a milestone win and secure a spot in the Championship 4.
Hamlin was emotional after the race.
While the battle for the victory stole center stage, Sunday was as much about who didn’t reach the finish as it was about the one that reached it first. Two of the Cup Series’ top title contenders saw their Round of 8 sent awry at Las Vegas.
Ryan Blaney came home last, dropping out early after he blew a tire in Stage 1 and slammed into the outside wall.
Two hours later, there was a much more dramatic exit. Regular season champion William Byron ran up front throughout the day and was positioned to challenge for the win and automatic advancement.
But his day quickly fell to ruin when he plowed into the back of Ty Dillon, who was planning to pit and caught the No. 24 out.
Blaney leaves Vegas last in the playoff standings, 31 points below the cutline. Byron’s now 15 points below in fifth, with Chase Elliott (-23) and Joey Logano (-24) also on the outside looking in.
Next up? Talladega Superspeedway. Buckle up.
Xfinity Series: A battle for the ages between a veteran and two young prospects went the way of the experienced driver on Saturday night.

Porsche Penske Motorsport didn’t have the victorious ending it wanted, but the No. 6 team came home third to clinch the driver’s and manufacturer’s title for Mathieu Jaminet and Matt Campbell.

Miller Racing’s No. 48 team secured the GTD Pro victory after a strong closing stint from Dan Harper, with the third-place No. 3 Corvette Racing by Pratt Miller Motorsports team locking up the championship with Antonio Garcia, Alexander Sims and Daniel

The GTD championship battle went the way of Winward Racing’s Russell Ward and Phillip Ellis early in the race. But there was still a race to win, and AF Corse’s No. 21 Ferrari of Simon Mann, Alessandro Pier Guidi and Lilou Wadoux proved up the track. Wadoux
is the third woman to win Petit Le Mans.
That left the LMP2 class, where an assumed-to-be-exiting Steven Thomas set quick time and claimed the victory by over 48 seconds with Hunter McElrea and Mikkel Jensen.
GT World Challenge Europe: A
dramatic conclusion at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya saw Garage 59 secure a dominant win while Rutronik Porsche’s Patric Niederhauser, Alessio Picariello and Sven Muller held on for the Pro class title when the leading Winward Racing group failed

Supercars
Australian motorsport doesn’t get much better than a Bathurst 1000 in the wet. Thankfully, that’s just what this year’s edition of the Great Race provided - and the field gave it a race worthy of the occasion.
Matt Payne and Garth Tander didn’t have the first car to see the checkered flag,
but
the pair gave Ford its first Bathurst win since 2019 after controversy arose for Cooper Murray and James Golding. (James Pavey & Zac Dowdell /

The pair were battling when Golding slammed into Murray, allowing Payne to get through. Golding was issued a penalty for the contract, and thought he was able to muscle his way past Payne on the final lap, the PremiAir Racing driver couldn’t build the necessary
margin to secure the win.
Tander’s win was his sixth, tying him for fourth on the race’s all-time wins list. It came in a race hit with seven cautions and numerous accidents.
Sunday’s
race saw the Repco Supercars Finals Series field set in the first year of Supercars’ new postseason format. Broc Feeney, Payne, Will Brown. Cam Waters, Chaz Mostert and Brodie Kostecki were already locked in. That left four spots up for grabs, with
Anton De Pasquale, Thomas Randle, Ryan Wood and Kai Allen securing them. Allen just snuck through after Andre Heimgartner was overtaken by Feeney on the final lap of the race. (James Pavey /

Sunday’s win means 2025 will mark Denny Hamlin’s fifth trip to the Championship 4 in 12 years of the elimination playoff format. Hamlin’s finished eighth or better in 10 of those 12 years, but hadn’t made the final in title contention during the Next Gen era
before this season.
Not that he hasn’t been close, of course. Hamlin famously had a Championship 4 spot all-but locked up on points in 2022 when Ross Chastain threw caution to the win and road the outside wall to advance at Martinsville Speedway.
