 Formula E shifts Monaco E-Prix to avoid WEC conflict (Formula E/Sports Cars)
The FIA’s game of calendar-based musical chairs saw another play on Tuesday, as Formula E shifted its 2027 Monaco E-Prix date to avoid a date clash with the FIA World Endurance Championship.
Formula E will hosts its two races on the iconic Monte Carlo circuit on May 1 and 2 before heading to Berlin the following weekend.
This is a shift of two weeks from the initial plans to hold the event on May 15-16. It’s being done to avoid a conflict with WEC’s trip to Spa-Francorchamps, which itself is a popular tuneup event for the tour’s signature event, the Le Mans 24 Hours.
So, why make the change? Because of an overlap between talent.
Many of Formula E’s drivers also compete in sports cars, particularly when WEC’s top events come around. Tuesday’s change won’t make their lives much easier - their schedules will now consist of three-consecutive race weekends including a lengthy sports car race to wrap things up - but they’ll be afforded to opportunity to contest them all without having to make a difficult decision.
Of course, that difficult decision could still arise further down the road. Formula E’s Shangai E-Prix is still schedule on the same weekend as WEC’s trip to São Paulo, July 10-11.
Formula E’s first season in the Gen4 era could still see additional schedule shifts, even if the Shangai-São Paulo conflict remains. The all-electric tour is slated to open its season in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on Dec. 18-19, but that race could easily move or find itself canceled as conflicts persist in the Middle East. Multiple other series have shifted dates away from the region in recent months, including the FIA’s own Formula 1 and WEC.

Before its initial NASCAR hiatus, Iowa Speedway hosted the Craftsman Truck Series for 13 races from 2009 through 2019. Included in those years were seven victories for Toyota, five triumphs for Chevrolet and a lone win for RAM with a young Ryan Blaney in 2012 - a dozen years before his win in the Cup Series’ first trip to the facility.
Noticeably absent from that list is a win for Ford, which failed to find victory lane in that 11-year stretch. The Blue Ovals would be poised to change that given Layne Riggs’ dominance this season, but NASCAR’s third tour has yet to be part of its Iowa return.
