Supercars CEO out for the second time ahead of New Zealand swing (Supercars)
Speedcafe’s Andrew van Leeuwen reported Thursday that Warburton is stepping down from his role as CEO ahead of the tour’s New Zealand swing. He’ll reportedly be replaced in an interim basis by Barclay Nettlefold, who serves as Chairman of the Supercars-owning Racing Australia Consolidated Enterprises (RACE).
“Supercars is a strong organization with committed staff, passionate teams and partners, and significant opportunity ahead,” Warburton said in a statement. “I’m proud of what the team has achieved and the momentum that we have built for the sport in a short period of time.
“I wish the RACE board, our staff and the broader Supercars community every future success for this great sport.”
Warburton is departing from his second stint at Supercars CEO. He previously held the role from 2013 through 2017 before returning to the role just last year. In his absence, Supercars will lean on Nettlefold while searching for a full-time replacement.
“On behalf of the board, I want to sincerely thank James Warburton for his leadership and contribution to Supercars,” Nettlefold said. “James brought deep experience, energy and commitment to the role, and his return to the business was driven by a genuine belief in the sport and its future.
“We are grateful for the work he has done over the last year and wish him every success in his next endeavor. As a board, we remain focused on maintaining momentum and execution as the organization moves forward.”
