Brad Keselowski cleared for Cup return ahead of Daytona 500 (NASCAR Cup)
Brad Keselowski’s quest for an elusive Daytona 500 win is back underway.
RFK Racing announced Monday that owner-driver Keselowski has been cleared to compete in the Cup Series opener after completing a medical evaluation and on track session Monday at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
The 2012 Cup Series champion’s status for the start of the 2026 season was cast in doubt after he suffered a broken femur in a Dec. 18 skiing accident. He underwent surgery on the leg and has spent the past two months working to recover and return to the car.
“Getting cleared was a huge moment for me. You put in the work, you trust the process, but until you hear that final ‘yes,’ nothing is guaranteed,” Keselowski said in a team release. “Knowing what Daytona means, and how hard it would have been to miss it, made this moment even bigger. I’m grateful to the medical team and to NASCAR for being thorough, and I’m excited to get back in the car.”
The clearance comes at a key time. Keselowski has been one of the best superspeedway racers of the past generation, with seven combined wins between Daytona International Speedway and Talladega Superspeedway. But despite numerous close calls, the Great American Race has continued to elude him.
Days away from his 42nd birthday, the Michigander is closer to the end of his career than the beginning. Missing Daytona would have hurt his ability to compete for the season-long title with the return of the Chase playoff format. But the sting of losing what could be one of his final chances at conquering NASCAR’s biggest race would have hurt worse.
“The Daytona 500 is the most coveted race we have. The history, the names on that trophy, it speaks for itself,” Keselowski said. “I’ve won at Daytona, but I haven’t won the 500, and that’s always been one I want. After everything it took to get back to this point, having another chance at it means everything.”
Keselowski will be one of four contenders for RFK Racing in the race. He’ll be joined by Cook Out Clash winner Ryan Preece, Chris Buescher and Corey LaJoie, who filled in for Keselowski at Bowman Gray Stadium.

 IndyCar stars test at Sebring International Raceway (IndyCar)
While the NASCAR field gears up for its season-opening weekend, the stars of America’s other major racing tour have begun the build to their own season.
NTT IndyCar Series teams ventured to Sebring International Raceway to open the week with a two-day test on the bumpy track’s short course. The track, known primarily for hosting IMSA’s 12 Hours of Sebring, is notorious for its bumpiness and the closest facsimile available to one of IndyCar’s many temporary street circuits.
Picking up where he left off in a dominant 2025 campaign, defending champ Alex Palou jumped to the top of the charts with a 52.626s lap for Chip Ganassi Racing on Monday morning. That time would hold through the day, as increased temperatures dropped a few tenths off the top times in the afternoon session.
There were 12 drivers on-track in the morning session, with Felix Rosenqvist, Rinus Veekay, Josef Newgarden and Kyle Kirkwood joining Palou in the top-five on pace. AJ Foyt Racing newcomer Caio Collet was present in the No. 4 Chevrolet, slotting 10th.
Dale Coyne Racing’s still-unconfirmed second entry was all-but assured with the presence of Romain Grosjean, who slotted 11th ahead of fellow ex-Formula 1 driver and IndyCar newcomer Mick Schumacher in 12th. Grosjean has been a lead contender for the car over the offseason, with chatter of other potential drivers including Conor Daly and Linus Lundqvist.
Notably absent was PREMA Racing, who remains MIA and isn’t expected to compete until as late as Long Beach in April while the team tries to finalize a sale.
The afternoon session saw Meyer Shank Racing’s Marcus Armstrong atop the charts with the lone sub-53-second lap, a 52:847. Scott McLaughlin followed for Team Penske, With Sting Ray Robb, Kyffin Simpson and Louis Foster wrapping up the top-five. Will Power was ninth in one of his first appearances for Andretti Global. There were 11 total participants in the session.
One interesting wrinkle for the session was the use of two different tires. From RACER’s Marshall Pruett:
Firestone is understood to have supplied each entry with four total sets of primary tires for the test, with two sets from the 2025 specification and two sets of primaries built to 2026 street racing spec. Most teams and drivers told RACER their plan was to use the 2025s on Monday and to save the 2026s for Tuesday, but it’s possible that some chose to use the 2026s on Monday, which could account for an increase or an absence of expected speed from some entries.
Armstrong led the morning session and day overall for Meyer Shank on Tuesday, setting a time of 52.372s. He was followed by an improved Scott Dixon, Power, McLaughlin and Santino Ferruci in a session that saw 12 drivers set times.
That left just one session, which was led by 2025 street course star Kirkwood with a time of 52.479s. Rosenqvist, Marcus Ericsson, Rinus Veekay and Palou followed.
In the end, the tire changes appeared to make little difference. Armstrong told RACER that “they weren’t really different, if I’m honest.
“It seemed like they had a bit slower temperature builds, which is exactly what they told us (to expect),” he said. “And then the balance and actual grip characteristics, I thought were quite similar.”

eNASCAR keeps playoffs, simplifies qualifying series for 2026 season (Sim Racing)
Much like NASCAR’s three national series, the sport’s top sim racing tour is making a pivot to a new format for 2026.
Series officials released the plans for the eNASCAR Coca-Cola iRacing Series’ 17th season on Monday, including a tweak to the way drivers qualify for the series and a modified three-race playoff.
The season will begin with an 11-race eNASCAR Coca-Cola iRacing Qualifying Series, running from Feb. 10 at Daytona International Speedway through April 28 at Texas Motor Speedway. Competitors will utilize Craftsman Truck Series vehicles for the first four races, switch to O’Reilly Auto Parts Series cars for the next four and finish off with three races in Cup Series machinery.
Once that stretch is complete, the top 30 in points will join the top 20 from the prior year’s standings and the top-two finishers from the eNASCAR College iRacing Series in free agency. With 20 teams competing, 40 of the 52 eligible drivers will be chosen to contest the rest of the schedule.
Once the field of contenders is selected, a nine-race regular season will follow. And unlike the tour’s real-life counterparts, the elimination playoff format will remain. Ten drivers will qualify for the ensuing playoffs, with the ability to advance either by winning or making the cutoff on points.
Qualifying drivers will compete in three playoff races from Sept. 1 through Sept. 22, set to determine the Championship 4. A final, winner-take-all finale will take place at virtual Homestead-Miami Speedway on Oct. 13. The champion will be awarded the Dale Earnhardt Jr. Cup and a $100,000 prize.
