Perez, Bottas making F1 returns with Cadillac in 2026 (F1)
With its first season in Formula 1 quickly approaching, Cadillac has confirmed an all-veteran lineup for its 2026 arrival on the grid.
Cadillac announced Tuesday that Grand Prix winners Sergio ‘Checo’ Perez and Valtteri Bottas will pilot its debuting entries in 2026. Both drivers have signed multiyear deals that will bring them back to the F1 grid after a year away in 2025.
Both Bottas and Perez have a wealth of experience in F1. The pair spent sizable time as the second driver for then-frontrunners Mercedes (Bottas) and Red Bull (Perez), claiming 16 Grands Prix along the way. They have a collective 527 appearances behind the wheel in the world’s top tour, giving the duo plenty of expertise to assist the burgeoning program.
“Signing two very experienced racers like Bottas and Checo is a bold signal of intent," Graeme Lowdon said in a press release. "They’ve seen it all and they know what it takes to succeed in Formula 1. But more importantly, they understand what it means to help build a team.
"Their leadership, feedback, race-hardened instincts and of course their speed will be invaluable as we bring this team to life. A big thank you to the team at Mercedes for their co-operation and understanding.”
Perez’s arrival will come after he was ousted early in a multiyear contract extension from Red Bull Racing, becoming the latest in a list of drivers to see the exit as teammates to four-time defending champion Max Verstappen. Bottas will return to active competition after a year as a Mercedes reserve driver, having returned to Brackley after three season for what is current Kick Sauber.
"They’re not just accomplished racers, they’re builders, collaborators, and professionals who will help define what the Cadillac Formula 1 Team stands for,” Cadillac F1 and TWG Motorsports CEO Dan Towriss said. “This moment marks more than just a line-up announcement. It’s the beginning of a bold new chapter in American motorsport.”
Cadillac will become F1’s 11th team when it takes to the grid to open the 2026 season. With its arrival comes an increased American presence and an expansion of the field to 22 cars.

 NASCAR gives notice of charter sale, 23XI/FRM claim future closure without charters ahead of hearing (NASCAR Cup)
NASCAR filed a legal notice Monday to notify the court and both teams that it plans to issue a charter to a redacted entity ahead of the 2026 season should the judge not prevent the agreement with a new ruling. This comes after a previous mandate requiring NASCAR to do so.
A quick counterclaim arrived from both teams afterward, saying they’ll be put out of business “following the 2025 Cup Series season” and suffer irreparable harm as unchartered entrants, giving both sponsors and drivers the option to leave. 23XI and FRM noted that “this court has already found that it is not economically viable to race as open teams on a long-term basis ... and NASCAR did not challenge that finding on appeal."
These statements come ahead of a Thursday hearing, where 23XI and FRM will seek another injunction to operate as chartered teams for the remainder of the season and prevent NASCAR from selling the charters. The teams previously had one, but it was ultimately overruled by the U.S. Court of Appeals.
NASCAR didn’t provide specific details on its charter plans, save for indicating that the prospective owner(s) "have expressed interest in obtaining a Cup Series Charter to NASCAR executives multiple times over the past several years.”
The charter(s) being considered would be among the four held by the organizations prior to 2025. Each acquired an additional charter from the shuttering Stewart-Haas Racing heading into the year, but that deal was overruled and those charter effectively remain in a state of limbo pending the results of the trial.
The trial itself is slated to begin on Dec. 1, 2025. Ten races remain in the NASCAR Cup Series season. 23XI and FRM are currently operating as open teams, but are guaranteed spots in the field due to midseason rule changes from NASCAR.
