Race Recaps
NASCAR
Cup Series With their backs against the wall, William Byron and the No. 24 Hendrick Motorsports team delivered a statement drive at Martinsville Speedway.
With Denny Hamlin and Chase Briscoe already locked in, that left just one spot up for grabs on points. It ultimately went to Kyle Larson after the 2021 champ outperformed Christopher Bell for the bulk of the race. Bell, Blaney, Joey Logano and Chase Elliott were knocked out of title contention.

Xfinity Series: The stage was set for chaos on Saturday night. A late caution and tense playoff battle provided plenty of incentive for race-altering contact.
But in the end, the Xfinity Series field rose to the occasion and delivered a memorable overtime. Taylor Gray inched away from Sammy Smith for his first-career win, leaving Smith, Brandon Jones, Sam Mayer and Sheldon Creed on the outside looking in. (Reid Spencer / NASCAR.com)
Without a playoff-contending winner, Connor Zilisch, Justin Allgaier, Jesse Love and Carson Kvapil emerged as the Championship 4. Kvapil’s run was nearly undone after a late spin, but he rallied from 30th to 18th in the closing laps to avoid Martinsville heartbreak.

Truck Series: When it comes to NASCAR’s third tour, there’s Corey Heim and then there’s everyone else. Heim was dominant again Friday, delivering a record-extending 11th win on the year to cruise into the Championship 4 with momentum. (Reid Spencer / NASCAR.com)
His championship race berth was already a given, but everyone else had to scrap and claw their way into contention. Ty Majeski and Tyler Ankrum were able to cruise through with top-10 runs. With strong contender Rajah Caruth’s night over early, the fight for the last spot came down to Kaden Honeycutt and Layne Riggs.
It came down to the final lap. But in the end, Honeycutt was able to finish second to Riggs’ third and advance on a tiebreaker with the best finish in the round. (Zach Sturniolo / NASCAR.com)

Formula 1: One of the tightest championship battles in modern F1 history is officially up for grabs.
Lando Norris snatched pole and converted it to a comfortable win in Sunday’s Mexican Grand Prix. Paired with an underwhelming fifth-place run for McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri, the result allowed Norris to surge into the championship lead by a single point. (F1.com)
Charles Leclerc came home second, aided by a timely late virtual safety car that kept Max Verstappen from pouncing for the spot. The four-time champion’s podium leaves him just 36 points out of the championship lead with four grands prix remaining.

Short Tracks
World Crown 300: Jake Garcia’s Truck Series playoff run came to an early end, but that doesn’t mean he’s done being competitive. Garcia rolled into Cordele Motor Speedway on Saturday and claimed victory in the World Crown 300 for a $42,500 prize. (Zach Evans / Racing America)

American-Canadian Tour: Erick Sands claimed a season-ending victory Saturday at Seekonk Speedway. But the star of the day was Raphael Lessard, who secured the series championship. (Zack Evans / Racing America)

Number of the Day: 91
Corey Heim’s had himself a year. With 11 victories, 21 stage wins and the regular season title, Heim’s earned 91 playoff points on track this year. If they factored into the championship race at all, he’d have already locked up the title on points. Luckily for the other title contenders, Friday’s championship fight will be a straight-up, one-race battle.
