#9-Chase Elliott won the Cook Out 400 NASCAR Cup Series race at Martinsville Speedway. The win is his first win of the year, second at Martinsville and 22nd career win.
Pole sitter #11-Denny Hamlin finished 2nd followed by #22-Joey Logano, #54-ty Gibbs, #24-William Byron, #12-Ryan Blaney, #20-Christoopher Bell, #2-Austin Cindric, #5-Kyle Larson, and #21-Josh Berry.
Hamlin dominated the first 300 laps of the race, leading 292 laps on the day, but Elliott short pitted on lap 261 and stayed near the front of the field when the caution came out on lap 312. Elliott retook the lead with 67 laps remaining and held it the remainder of the race.
Stages 1 and 2 were both won by #11-Denny Hamlin.
The fastest lap bonus a earned by #11-Denny Hamlin.
There were 8 lead changes among 6 drivers and 5 cautions for 54 yellow flag laps.
The average speed of the race was: 75.457mph.

Cup Series: Alan Gustafson gets plenty of flack at times from Chase Elliott’s ardent supporters. But the group had to tip their cap to the crew chief Sunday at Martinsville Speedway.
Elliott benefitted from good pit strategy and a timely yellow before fending off the dominant Denny Hamlin to claim the Cook Out 400. It was the 2020 champion’s earliest first win in a Cup Series season, coming seven races into the year.
The race included a bit of a pileup courtesy of Carson Hocevar and Bubba Wallace.
 
O’Reilly Auto Parts Series: Sundays in the No. 48 haven’t been going entirely to plan, but Justin Allgaier remains the king of Saturdays in NASCAR.
The 2024 series champion made the most of a day filled with JR Motorsports stars to score his third win of the year at Martinsville.
The O’Reilly Series race also had a massive wreck, set off my a missed shift for short track standout Lee Pulliam in his series debut.
 
Whelen Modified Tour: Martinsville Speedway is often a track claimed by the Mod Squad’s best drivers. But on a rain-postponed Saturday race at the iconic Virginia oval, it was a newcomer that earned one of the track’s grandfather clock trophies.
 
ARCA Menards Series East: While most of the NASCAR world was up the road in Virginia, ARCA’s competitors set themselves up for a contact-filled showdown in North Carolina.

F1: It was another eventful weekend for F1 ahead of a spell of one race over the ensuing eight weeks amid Middle Eastern race cancellations.
Going into that break, F1 has its youngest championship leader ever. Kimi Antonelli took advantage of a timely safety car amid pit stops to make a free trip to pit road, emerge with the lead and claim a 13.722s victory over McLaren’s Oscar Piastri, who finally completed laps. Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc rounded out the podium.
The win gave Antonelli the points lead at just 19 years old.
 
Unfortunately, the key takeaway from the weekend may have nothing to do with the win. Oliver Bearman was the first true victim of F1’s closing rate in this new super clipping era, having swerved to avoid Franco Colapinto and suffered a massive 50G crash during Sunday’s Japanese Grand Prix. (Josh Suttill / The Race)
He was limping afterward, but thankfully only suffered a right knee contusion. Bearman’s accident has shifted the discussion to safety and risk heading into a lengthy off period where F1 may consider implementing changes.
