Monday Morning Update
November 19, 2007
As we head into the holiday season and the hustle and bustle of schedules, preparations, and social gatherings, we want to take this time to wish you a Happy Thanksgiving and Happy Holiday season. We are looking forward to great things for our community in the coming year!
UPDATE ON THE SCASD BOARD MEETINGS:
The incumbent SCASD board of directors will meet for the last time on Monday, November 26, 2007 at 7:30 in the Board Offices at 131 W. Nittany Ave. We thank the board for their community service and wish them well.
The new board will take office on MONDAY, December 3, 2007 at the regular school board meeting. The meeting will be at 7:30 and will also be held in the Board offices at 131 W. Nittany Ave. At that time, the board will elect a new Board President and Vice-President. With a new majority on the board - those who advocate for fiscal responsibility, open government and effective delivery of education in our community - we anticipate changes in the board and how they conduct business.
We encourage citizens to attend on December 3 to show our support for the new board members – Barney Grimes, Rick Madore, Ann McGlaughlin, Chris Small and Dorothea Stahl. Our school district faces many challenges and they will need our continued ideas, encouragement and support. Please attend this historic event and encourage others to do so as well. Bring a friend. Watch it on CNET.
A SAMPLING OF E-MAILS
From supporters….
“We need to encourage our children, especially our teenagers, to either attend or watch the December 3 board meeting. The efforts of the community in the past 2 years, culminating in the November election, were a case study in Democracy and how a community can bring about change when elected officials don’t represent the will of the people. I’m proud to have been a part of it!”
“Maybe now that the election is really over we can move forward with evaluating what really needs to be done within the School District.”
“Thanks again so very much for all you've done to lead and keep our movement going through this very protracted and complex effort--thanks to our incredibly resistant incumbent school board, who we now can thankfully at last put behind us.”
“I know that change is coming in a BIG way after January 1, 2008. The citizens of our community once again let the former school board members know that we do have a voice on what happens in our schools.”
“Now that the election is over and our people are actually elected, I
just wanted to congratulate all those who worked to end the school board
travesty. I know how much time, effort, and dedication it took to get the
job done. It was something I could not have done because the frustration
and anger got the best of me and I just had to stay in the background.
I and many other taxpayers admire that determination, dedication, and
patience and we thank you for your efforts. Now maybe an open and
sensible approach can be made to doing what is best for the school district
and the taxpayer. You all deserve a very big thank you for a job well done.
