The will of the people…

It appears that the SCASD board is still NOT listening to the citizens of the district.  A group calling themselves the “SOS Campaign” has announced a press conference for this Wednesday, September 12, at 12:15 in room 220 of the Borough Building.  We urge everyone to attend.  Is it Bob Hendrickson announcing his write in?  Is it Board President Susan Werner refusing to give up her reign?  Perhaps Janet McCracken has had second thoughts?  Maybe someone among the vocal minority who supported the board through the events of the past 2 years has decided to try to carry the torch on their behalf.

Sounds like SAME OLD SHINOLA (SOS)!!!

WE are not forgetting….

·        $5.2 million dollars WASTED on a project that people didn’t want, the community predicted would go over budget and was in opposition to current trends in education.  Why would we re-elect people who have such disregard for our resources?

·        10.5 hours of testimony at the ACT 34 Hearing that opposed the high school project but they continued with it anyway

·        Incumbents telling the PUBLIC that the high school decision was “too complex” for us to understand

·        3576 petition signatures that asked the board to stop and re-evaluate

·        Students who protested against the project called PAWNS by officials, only one of whom has children in public schools

·        84% of Republicans and 60% of Democrats voted them OUT– a landslide AGAINST the old regime

·        Parents IGNORED.  Teachers IGNORED.  Students TALKED DOWN TO and MARGINALIZED.

·        $55,000 spent on a PR specialist rather than just sitting down and talking with their constituents

·        Millions spent SINCE the May elections…planned up grades to the South Track Field, to Memorial Field and to the High School that weren’t in the budget and are NOT a part of any District Wide Master Plan

·        Refusal to engage the “challengers” in a transitional process that would have started the process of healing and planning for the future

·        On NOVEMBER 16, 2005…months in advance of a public hearing they KNEW was legally mandated…telling the public “it’s a done deal.”

The School Board election was decided in the May 2007 primary.  For the incumbents not to accept the clear voice of the community is simply an embarrassment.  To challenge it with a write-in campaign is a pointless distraction and a continued waste of money and reminds us of 3rd World dictators who seek to have democratic elections annulled when they don't like the result.
