VOLUNTEER NEEDS
1. Leaders & Assistants for Children’s Liturgy of the Word at the 9:00 am and 11:00 am Masses. “The children of St. Charles are eager to hear the Word of God! You can help by helping them
proclaim the Word, and, sing together during the Children’s Liturgy of the Word. Resource materials and “on the job training” are available. All you need is to enjoy sharing your faith and
spending time with kids!” Time commitment: 10-15 minutes on Sunday mornings during the school year & prep time at home. Contact Susan Grunder at: sgru...@stcharleschurch.org
2. Catechists: Preschool – Grade 6, Sunday mornings (10:10 am – 10:55 am) & Sunday afternoons (12:10 pm – 1:00 pm). Come help the children of St. Charles grow in faith and love. You will be teamed with another catechist and given resources and support to help you. Sharing your faith with a group of children can be a rewarding and enriching experience. 3. Catechists: Family Program: Do you think you would like to be a catechist but can’t commit to every Sunday? Consider volunteering to help with our Monthly Family Program. We need catechists to help teach small groups of children during break-out sessions. A simple meal is provided. We will meet for 8 sessions throughout the year (Sundays 4:00 -5:45 pm). This is a wonderful opportunity to work with children and become connected with family groups here at St. Charles. Time Commitment: 2 hours 1x month, plus preparation time. 4. Children’s Initiation Catechist: We have a number of children in the parish who will be preparing to celebrate the sacraments of Initiation this year. The group will meet 1xmonth

Volunteers needed for Arlington’s Emergency Winter Shelter.
Arlington Street People's Assistance Network (A-SPAN) will be operating an emergency winter shelter near the Court House Metro station from November to March. Volunteers are needed help to serve meals, distribute hygiene supplies, bedding, and clothing to guests. St. Charles will be organizing several small teams to volunteer together one evening per month from 5:30-7:30pm. Team coordinators are also needed. PARKING FOR WEEKEND MASS AT ST. CHARLES
--GMU has graciously allowed us to use their parking at their building at Kirkwood & Wash. Blvd. for our weekend Masses (only). Enter the surface lot from Kirkwood or enter garage from Wash. Blvd.
--If you park in the Parish lot, you can ignore the “reserved” signs on the weekends.
--Please do not park in fire lanes or block the priest carport
REQUESTS FOR MONEY
St. Charles is a very generous community and because of our location in Arlington we often have individuals come to the Church requesting money for various reasons. If someone approaches you and asks for money while you are here for Mass or other events, please do not hesitate to refer them to our Social Services Coordinator, Jo-Ann Duggan. Her hours at the office are Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays & Fridays from 11:00 until 6:30 p.m. Thank you.

Advent Morning of Recollection

Please join SpesNostra (Our Lady of Lourdes, Arlington), Fr. Avella, and area young adults in the Arlington Diocese for an Advent Morning of Recollection on Saturday, December 4th! We will offer Adoration, Meditations, Confession, and Mass. Come for spiritual preparation for the anniversary of the birth of Our Savior and reflect upon your life's unique purpose. We are preparing a scintillating series on Catholic social justice issues, including immigration, health care & abortion, gang prevention, prison ministry, and more! Join 150-300 young adults for evenings of fellowship & faith on Monday nights, October 25th - November 9th at Pat Troy's (111 N. Pitt Street) "Ireland's Own" in Alexandria. Come for a happy half hour at 7:00 PM and continue for the talk and festivities at 7:30 PM.

HELP AFTER ABORTION
Are you experiencing feelings of shame, guilt, regret and sadness? Have you lost a child to abortion? Contact Project Rachel post-abortion healing ministry for confidential referrals to trained clergy, professional counselors, retreats and/or aftercare gatherings at (703) 841-2504 / 1-888-456-HOPE or arlingtondiocese.org/Rachel. Do you know someone who is carrying the grief and sorrow of past abortions? Share with them the “good news” of God’s merciful love. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
Volunteers are needed to work at Christ House as receptionists for the Emergency Assistance Hotline. Come and volunteer one 4 hour shift mornings or afternoon to help answer calls for assistance. Training provided. A desire to serve those in need required! Volunteers are also needed to help with running and organizing the evening meal at Christ House. Greet diners, help with set-up, clean-up and make sure ministry runs smoothly. Sign up to work one 4-7 p.m. shift a week. Catholic Charities is also looking for volunteers experienced in bankruptcy law to work with clients facing financial crises. Whether you have a few hours a week, a month, or even on an occasional basis, your time and talents are always welcome and appreciated at Dominican Retreat. We have an ongoing need for volunteers in the following areas:· Dining Room/Kitchen- setting tables, serving, running dishwasher
· Housekeeping in the dormitory
· Mailings
· Front Office – filing and other clerical projects
· Computer- proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher, and /or Power Point
· Outdoors – raking leaves, weeding, gardening and other related projects
