Bring your mat and join us in Benedict Hall Wednesday mornings 10-11am and Monday evenings 6-7pm.

 

FREE ZUMBA CLASSES   

Latin American dance/exercise on Wednesdays at 7pm in the Gym.

 

PARKING FOR WEEKEND MASS AT ST. CHARLES

--GMU has graciously allowed us to use their parking at their building at Kirkwood & Wash. Blvd. for our weekend Masses (only).  Enter the surface lot from Kirkwood or enter garage from Wash. Blvd. 

--If you park in the Parish lot, you can ignore the “reserved” signs on the weekends. 

--Please do not park in fire lanes or block the priest carport

 

REQUESTS FOR MONEY

St. Charles is a very generous community and because of our location in Arlington we often have individuals come to the Church requesting money for various reasons.  If someone approaches you and asks for money while you are here for Mass or other events, please do not hesitate to refer them to our Social Services Coordinator, Jo-Ann Duggan. Her hours at the office are Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays & Fridays from 11:00 until 6:30 p.m.  Thank you.

 

LOCAL RETREAT CENTER

Did you know we have a beautiful and peaceful Catholic retreat center “in our own backyard”?  The Dominican Retreat Center in McLean offers a host of retreats, days of reflection and talks on many aspects of spirituality.  They also offer spiritual direction.  For more information, visit them at www.dominicanretreat.org or call (703) 356-4243.

 

Knights of Columbus Updates 

 Thanksgiving Dinner
Thursday, November 25
8:00 AM – 5:30 PM
The Knights are getting ready as well to serve our annual Thanksgiving Dinner for anyone who needs a great home cooked turkey dinner.   KOC offers dinners to anyone who.  The Knights are also recruiting volunteers as well as donated turkeys.  We would appreciate volunteers, and/or donated turkeys for us to prepare.  The dinner is located  at Knights Of Columbus EDW #2473 Council Hall (Upper Level), 5115 Little Falls Road, Arlington, VA 22207-1811

Advent Morning of Recollection 

Saturday, December 4th

Please join SpesNostra (Our Lady of Lourdes, Arlington), Fr. Avella, and area young adults in the Arlington Diocese for an Advent Morning of Recollection on Saturday, December 4th! We will offer Adoration, Meditations, Confession, and Mass. Come for spiritual preparation for the anniversary of the birth of Our Savior and reflect upon your life's unique purpose. The event will take place from 9:45 AM - 12:45 PM at Our Lady of Lourdes (830 23rd Street South) in Arlington. Please contact Kateri with any questions at 703-841-2549. We hope to see you there!

Our Fall 2010 Theology on Tap program will begin with Fr. Donald Planty on Monday, October 25th. We are preparing a scintillating series on Catholic social justice issues, including immigration, health care & abortion, gang prevention, prison ministry, and more!  Join 150-300 young adults for evenings of fellowship & faith on Monday nights, October 25th - November 9th at Pat Troy's (111 N. Pitt Street) "Ireland's Own" in Alexandria. Come for a happy half hour at 7:00 PM and continue for the talk and festivities at 7:30 PM.

HELP AFTER ABORTION

Are you experiencing feelings of shame, guilt, regret and sadness? Have you lost a child to abortion? Contact Project Rachel post-abortion healing ministry for confidential referrals to trained clergy, professional counselors, retreats and/or aftercare gatherings at (703) 841-2504 / 1-888-456-HOPE or arlingtondiocese.org/Rachel.  Do you know someone who is carrying the grief and sorrow of past abortions? Share with them the “good news” of God’s merciful love.  Call Project Rachel for a confidential referral to a priest and/or counselor: (888-456-HOPE).

 

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

Volunteers are needed to work at Christ House as receptionists for the Emergency Assistance Hotline.  Come and volunteer one 4 hour shift mornings or afternoon to help answer calls for assistance.  Training provided. A desire to serve those in need required!  Volunteers are also needed to help with running and organizing the evening meal at Christ House. Greet diners, help with set-up, clean-up and make sure ministry runs smoothly.  Sign up to work one 4-7 p.m. shift a week.  Catholic Charities is also looking for volunteers experienced in bankruptcy law to work with clients facing financial crises.  We are also looking for an experienced Support Group Facilitator to lead a support group at Christ House. DOMINICAN RETREAT HOUSE VOLUNTEERING

Whether you have a few hours a week, a month, or even on an occasional basis, your time and talents are always welcome and appreciated at Dominican Retreat. We have an ongoing need for volunteers in the following areas:·     Dining Room/Kitchen- setting tables, serving, running dishwasher

·     Housekeeping in the dormitory

·     Mailings

·     Front Office – filing and other clerical projects

·     Computer- proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher, and /or Power Point

·     Outdoors – raking leaves, weeding, gardening and other related projects
