Dear friends,
Thank you for subscribing to the advocacy listserv at St. Charles Borromeo Church. We are sorry that we have not been active recently, but we are trying to get the listserv going again. Below you will find two *very urgent* opportunities to advocate by email for social justice in our Commonwealth of Virginia, plus information about how to participate with fellow St. Charles parishioners in advocating for respect for human life on Jan. 25. Also, please stay tuned for other upcoming advocacy opportunities at St. Charles.
Thank you for patience, and for your support for justice and human dignity.
Sincerely,
Elise Cleva

III. MARCH FOR LIFE
I. SHARED WORK– URGENT! CONSIDERATION TODAY!
Urge legislators to support Virginia’s use of compensated work sharing, a type of unemployment insurance that enables businesses to avoid layoffs and keep workers on the job. This bipartisan legislation is being sponsored by Senator George Barker and Senator Bill Stanley. Let the Senate Commerce & Labor Committee know you strongly support the shared work bill (SB 1230). WRITE YOUR MESSAGE TODAY because the bill will be on the docket a half hour after session TODAY, Mon., Jan. 21. Click the link below for a message and then click to send your message to the entire committee.

II. TANF OPT OUT
Urge legislators to support the Opting Out of TANF’s Ban on Assistance to Convicted Drug Felons and their Families. This ban penalizes children of drug felons for the misdeeds of their parents. Furthermore, the ban unfairly targets needy families and encourages recidivism rather than advancing former felons’ transition to becoming law-abiding, productive citizens. The Opt Out (SB 835) passed the Senate Rehab and Social Service committee (13-Y 1-N). Let’s get the House version of the Opt Out (HB 1458) through the House now and be ready this week for House Health, Welfare and Institutions (HWI) full Committee meeting at the call of the Chair. We need to pick up a few more Republican votes. We can win this one if everybody does their part.
Click the below link for a message you can personalize and easily send. Then just provide your zip code and click to send your message to the entire committee.
