II. RALLY: Supreme Court Hearing SB1070 – Wed., April 25 at 11 am

Arizona’s SB1070 will be heard by the Supreme Court this Wednesday.
The consequences of the Court’s decision on whether to uphold all,
part, or none of the law will have a tremendous impact on immigrant
and Latino communities all across the United States and here in the DC
metro area.

Join CASA de Maryland and a number of local and national labor, faith,
and immigrant rights groups on the steps of the court house on
Wednesday, April 25 at 11 am to demand justice and defend our basic
civil rights!

What: March and rally against Arizona’s SB1070

When: Wed., April 25 at 11 am

Where: Steps of the Supreme Court

Who: Hundreds of community leaders, prominent civil rights, faith, and
labor leaders

III. PRESS CONFERENCE: End, Don't Mend, Secure Communities – Fri.,
April 27 at noon

Two days after the Supreme Court rally, we have the opportunity to
protect our own community from Arizonafication. The DC metro area has
been at the forefront of defending immigrant rights and rejecting
ICE's "Secure Communities" (S-Comm) program. This Friday, April 27,
ICE is holding a "community" roundtable to promote S-Comm. We're
calling upon community members and advocates from across the area to
join us for a press conference at noon outside the ICE building to
make it clear once again: We reject S-Comm.

S-Comm allows state and local police to check the fingerprints of an
individual they are booking into a jail against Department of Homeland
Security immigration databases. If there is a "hit" in an immigration
database, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is automatically
notified, even if the person has not been convicted of any criminal
act.

What: Press conference

When: Friday, April 27 at noon

Where: 131 M Street N.E. Washington DC 20002
(near New York Ave Metro)
Who: Unions, students, faith and immigrant rights groups, and
organizations against domestic violence

IV. HOPE FOR DARFUR – JUSTICE IN SUDAN RALLY – Sat., April 29 at 1:30
pm

The Darfur Interfaith Network and United to End Genocide encourage
people to stand up, take action, and march to demonstrate to our
government that there is continued broad support from U.S. citizens
for the United States to pursue peace and justice in Sudan. Rallyers
will demand that the U.S. government and the international community
act now with greater focus and determination to help the innocent
Sudanese people, who have suffered far too long and are the current
targets of ethnic cleansing and genocide!

What: Hope for Darfur - Justice in Sudan Rally

When: 1:30 pm, Sunday, April 29, 2012

Where: Metropolitan AME Church at 1518 M Street, NW (near Farragut
North or McPherson Square metro stops). Weather permitting,
participants will walk about half of a mile to Lafayette Park across
from the White House where the rally will be held.
