Subject: Summer Harvest Tonight!
Date: Mon, 25 Jul 2011 13:27:50 -0400

Greetings from your July 25 Summer Harvest Host!

The last two weeks of Summer Harvest (tonight, July 25, and next Monday, August 1) will be hosted at The Lakehouse, 4598 Grove St., Denver, CO 80211.  This is in the Highlands area, two blocks south of I-70 and a block west of Federal, at the SE corner of 46th and Grove (a brick house across the street from the park).  We will be gathering in the downstairs apartment, so please come to the white side door (on 46th Street) rather than the front door.

Attached are handouts for tonight's discussion of Catholic Social Teaching: guidelines for letting our faith shape our communities and public policy.  Please print them and bring them with you if you can, but I will print extra copies.  We will be reading through and discussing Catholic Social Teaching from Scripture, papal encyclicals, and Catherine of Sienna, a doctor of the Church, and then discussing how to apply them to our lives.  Advance prep is not necessary.

I will be making Lasagna.  Please sign up for sides, salad, or desserts at the following Google Doc.

Hope you are having a fabulous summer and hope to see you tonight.  God Bless!

Greetings all!

Tonight is the last Summer Harvest of the 2011 Season, and will be hosted at the same place as last week,  The Lakehouse, 4598 Grove St., Denver, CO 80211.  Thanks for bearing with the heat last time.  I invite you to please bring a fan this week if you have one.  At 7 pm, I will be serving up a taco bar and loaded baked potato bar (not as random as it sounds, both use the same toppings).  I will provide potatoes, seasoned hamburger, shells, and some basic toppings- cheese, lettuce, tomato, sour cream, and bacon- but encourage you to bring reinforcements or any toppings, fillings, or sides that sounds good.

We will be working off of the same handouts as last week (attached), picking up where we left off talking about the importance to human dignity of allowing all persons to actively participate in social society, because God created us as social beings (the principle of Participation).  Please consider the following questions:
  • How can we personally improve participation/inclusion for: shy classmates or parishioners our age?  the elderly? single moms?  caregivers of elderly parents? immigrants and refugees?  other groups or persons you think feel isolated?
  • How might we be able to use technology to increase participation?
  • Do you know your next door neighbors?  How might you introduce yourself?
  • When was the last time you called your own grandma?
Looking forward to our discussion.  Hope you can make it.  God Bless!
