Dear Colleagues,
Frontline humanitarian and community workers remain at the heart of humanitarian response, yet many continue to face serious challenges related to safety, wellbeing, job security, and equitable working conditions particularly among national and local actors.
Recent findings highlight the urgency of this issue. In 2024, 281 humanitarian workers lost their lives, alongside continued attacks on health workers and facilities. Further research indicates that 42% of aid workers in Bangladesh experienced job insecurity, underscoring the need for stronger institutional safeguards, accountability, and support systems.
In this context, Sphere India, in collaboration with Humanitarian Aid International, is convening a focused session to deliberate on a Charter of Rights for Frontline Humanitarian and Community Workers, aligned with localisation commitments under the Grand Bargain (2016).
