Police call for calm in Juba as shops, offices closed

South Sudan’s Police Service on Wednesday afternoon called for calm in
Juba town saying police are in full control of the town. The police
refuted rumors that fighting is going to take place in Juba today.

Speaking at a news conference, the Interior Minister Michael Chiengiek
Geay said that there are some people who don’t want businesses to go
as normal and therefore wanted to create a problem so that they can
loot people’s shops.

“I would like to assure our people that the spreading rumors that
there are fighting and clashes in the town are not true. Yesterday,
our police were in Buluk for the daily training people pick it
different and has nothing to do with the problem happened in Yei road
or other where,” he said.

“Anybody who came and tells you that things are not good and there
will be fight is not true,” Michael added.

He said the CID officers are in the markets to make sure nothing
happens to people businesses.

“We have directed our security organs especially the police
administration in Jubek state to look for those who are spreading this
false information should be arrested. People should stay calm in
houses and do their normal duties as there town everything is under
control.”
