Suspected Rebel Attack In Ngop County Leaves 24 Dead

At least 24 people including women and children were killed and 15 others wounded when an armed group attacked a cattle camp in Ngop County in Eastern Lakes State on Sunday.

The incident occurred at 4:00 am local time in Panhom Toor cattle camp.

In a statement released by Marial Amum, the Head of Information Committee in the Eastern Lakes State Assembly at least 13 herders were killed, 15 others wounded and over 100 heads of cattle also killed in the attack.

“A rebel group came from Amadi State on Sunday and launched a heavy attack using RPG 7 and other artilleries on a cattle camp,” said Marial Amum.“The incident led to the deaths of 13 people and among them were two women, nine children and one hundred cows also confirmed dead during the fighting at Panhom Toor cattle camp,” said Amum.

The Eastern Lakes parliamentarian further said that 11 others were also killed on the side of cattle raiders, claiming that the perpetrators were identified as SPLA- IO rebels wearing green Military Uniforms from Amadi State.

Amum pointed out that the 15 wounded people from the herders are receiving treatment at Mapuordit Hospital. He accused the SPLA-IO rebels of raiding over 2,000 heads of cattle belonging to civilians.Honorable Marial Amum called upon UN agencies to offer emergency assistance to those who lost their cattle and belongings after the recent attacks, saying the herders are in dire need of help.

The Police Commissioner in Eastern Lakes State, Monytoch Akol says the situation is now calm after the attack and the army has been deployed around Pahnom Toor where this incident occurred.
