TORIT, 24 May 2013 [Gurtong] – Jerome Surur Gama said this on Thursday
at the three day National Security Policy and Strategy (NSPS)
consultative workshop in the state capital, Torit.

Surur said the NSPS should be in the interest of all the citizens of
South Sudan to enable all them (citizens) enjoy the fruits of freedom
they struggled for.

Citing corruption and tribalism as factors that have hindered
development of South Sudan, the Spokesperson of the National Security
Council (NSC), Mr. Peter Biar Ajak appealed to the citizens to promote
nationalism to foster development and security.

He listed health, economy, education, poor road network in addition to
illegal possession of firearms by civilians as the other factors
threatening national security.

According to Ajak, South Sudanese loved each other during the war but
have now become tribalistic and as such citizens are forced to pursue
individual objectives.

“In order to achieve love towards each other and develop this new
nation, promote development of the nation as a team,” Ajak appealed.

The national security spokesperson further reiterated the need for
creation of general awareness to the public to overcome corruption,
saying citizens once informed will work towards curbing the vice.
