Launch of the 'Trade Update 2017: Out of the Shadows' View this email in your browser New Briefing Paper on the UN Programme of Action’s Sixth Biennial Meeting The Sixth Biennial Meeting of States (BMS6) was the final meeting before the Third Review Conference of the UN Small Arms Programme of Action (PoA), scheduled for June 2018, and the first since the adoption of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Taking account of the SDGs and other new developments, the main task for BMS6 was to prepare the ground for the Review Conference.   Gaining Perspective: The UN Programme of Action’s Sixth Biennial Meeting explains how BMS6 fulfilled this mandate, focusing on the contributions it makes to the UN small arms framework, generally, and more specifically to the Third Review Conference. The final section of the paper identifies some of the principal challenges—and opportunities—the Review Conference will confront. The report will be made available in hard copy to participants of the Third Conference of States Parties to the Arms Trade Treaty in Geneva.
