South Sudanese activist fears deportation from Uganda

KAMPALA (22 Feb.)

A South Sudanese human rights group based in Uganda said it received credible information that its leader has been placed under security surveillance by South Sudan security agents.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Tuesday, Peter Gai Manyuon, Executive Director for African Centre for Transitional Justice, expressed fear that the South Sudanese government could deport him back to Juba.

Gai claimed that he received reports from Juba that a team of seven security agents has been dispatched to Kampala to deport him back to Juba. The rights activist claimed that another human rights defender called Biel Boutros has also been placed under security surveillance in Uganda.

”My name and Biel’s name have been put on the list, so they want to deport us to Juba,” he said.He pointed out that his group has been vocal on human rights issues in South Sudan.”The government claims that I was one of those who contributed when the Sentry report was compiled, I and Dong Samuel, that’s why they want to deport me to Juba,” he said.
