Today's humanitarian news and analysis
Dear colleagues and friends,

Journalists and NGOs are banned from bearing witness to the conflict in Sudan’s South Kordofan Province, particularly from front line areas in the Nuba Mountains. But today, you have the opportunity to visit the region through an immersive 360/VR film exclusive.

Besieged: A 360 experience in Sudan's Nuba Mountains is the first immersive project of its kind from this region, where aid still isn't reaching local populations despite the recent US decision to lift sanctions on President Omar al-Bashir’s government.

This film transports you inside a neglected and hard-to-access humanitarian crisis - pictured is a air raid drill - and highlights the impossible toll on Nuba civilians after almost six years of conflict between the Sudanese government and rebel fighters. Despite a tenuous ceasefire, fighting continues to flare and bombs to fall on the people of the Nuba Mountains, where women, children and the elderly have taken to hiding out in caves to survive.

Directed and produced by London-based production company TFMdigital with support from Pax Christi and co-produced and edited by IRIN, the film gives voice to the lived experience of a besieged people.

The scenes themselves are of real civilians in real situations and were filmed on location in the Nuba Mountains. The narration, recorded by the South Sudan Theatre Organization in Juba, involves Sudanese and South Sudanese actors and is composed of interview excerpts from more than a dozen civilians.

“We Nuba people are more than 50 tribes, with different languages, cultures, and songs… We support each other and we live together. We believe in humanity, and we want to live as human beings. But we are never free.”

Experience the 360 film here.

Thank you for taking the time to experience this new project, and please share it with colleagues and friends who might be interested. Share on social media with tags #Nuba and #Sudan360.
