Lets get this ball rolling: Thoughts on this? Normally Space Operas
have an Earth, but sometimes that Earth isn't the original Earth but a
second one.

Thoughts?

My favourite space opera of all time (Perry Rhodan) has us coming from
Earth and, in fact, the series starts off with the titular character
landing on the moon in the first moon mission. Another space opera I
enjoyed, however (Neverness) has Earth basically a lost place
remembered only in vague legends. People came from Earth originally
but so long ago and so far away that nobody really knows where it is
or how many of the stories about it were true.

Pebble in the Sky had people on Earth in a future far enough distant
that everyone had mostly forgotten that humans originally came from
that rather radioactive planet.

The inhabitants of Earth thought it was the case, but it became more a
political thing.

Of course, the presence of a man who accidentally falls through time
from our time to then, and then gets superpowers, complicates matters.

What's interesting is that this whole element of 'where did humans
originate' is a rather minor part of the plot, if I remember right.

(I have a soft spot for Asimov.)

Yes, I agree the two common tropes are:

Earth is dead, we travel.

and

Earth?

I enjoy the latter, but the former also has it's appeal to me. One
brings the element of a plot the other (Former) can start heavy
political notions.

Bloom and Vacuum Flowers, and some other transhumanist stories, have
the fun conceit that Earth is 'dead' because it got gobbled up/changed
into a transhuman entity.

Which also sets up war/conflict elements.

Since the medium is a MUTE, what aspect do you guys think would work
best?

The question is: Do the players remember Earth?

If yes: What condition is Earth in?

If No: Due to time or other effect?
